Someone asked about a manual for ac3d so I'll post this.
There are movies on the ac3d site of course, but if you like to have a printed manual at hand while you work, you might take a look at this site (http://www.rose.brandeis.edu/manuals/ac3dman/). I'm sure it's out of date (I remember at least one revision since I found it) but I bet it'll get you started.
Keep in mind I haven't found time to try any of this but it looked like good information.
There was another site which explained the anatomy of an LOD(?). I'll try to find that and post it here too.

Just a reminder to add after those very informative LOD pages:
The polygons in AH2 are not limited to triangles only. Any number from 3 up is ok as long as the the edge remains convex (every corner turns in same direction). In other words, you can make a octagon (8 edges) with one poly, but not a 4-pointed-star (also 8 edges)

Those are informative pages Xjazz.:aok
Unfortunately the LOD anatomy page I wanted was at wingswithwires.com which has died and I can’t find the author who went by JT or woodpanel. Guess I’ll post some of the instructions in text format when I have time. If anybody knows this guy, find out if the original article is mirrored somewhere or let me know how to contact him please. I kept a copy, it’s a good read for a geek if you like that sort of thing.
I wanted to post it because it breaks down the file format which is a text file btw. Luckily I put a copy on my harddrive for my use but that's too big, and not easily shared, and I don't know if it'll make sense without the graphics. The article started out as an interview and turned into a full blown white paper.
