Wife called me at work and said while she was on the computer, it just stopped working. Black screen and no lights on tower or keyboard. She said that when she pressess the start button nothing happens. Does this sound like my power supply died? System is 5 years old. Dell 4100 dimension.

Sure sounds like it. They're not that $ to replace.

Thx DmdMax, I think I will stop by Fry's today and pick one up. I cannot be gone long from AH, you know withdrawls!

That happened to my Compaq; was a dead motherboard. The connector for the power button got worn out. The PS worked in the computer I was still building at the time.
-
Unplug everything, hold the start button for aprox 10 seconds, then plug only the power cord in and push the button, while pushing the button have the case open and watch the PSU and CPU fan and see if they go on at all. More later after results.

Dell psu is propreitry design. you wont find one at fry's. try pc power and cooling. get one of the silencers.
