Son of a B.... Netscape was running (ws browsing) earlier today when my PC froze. I had to hard boot it. But, for some freaking reason netscape screwed me over BIG TIME! I lost all my settings, all my MAIL files and all my bookmarks! AAHHHHHHH!!!!
OMGWTF?!?!?!
I did a quick look and the folder that HAD my mail in it is no longer there. There is a new one. They give you odd numbers and letters and schtuff. This one isn't the same name as the old one. I *HAD* a mail backup folder, but it was in the application data/mozilla/ directory and *IT* got wiped with the rest!
I reiterate:
OMGWTF?!?!?!
Need help here... Is there *ANY* way of saving my data, before I do anything else that might ruin it!

it sorta looks like you caught a bug ... as for thats about the only thing that will deleate stuff like that from your pc ...
i suggest u check for that 1st .
as for recovering deleated files .. theres a few programs that can do that
AE ; Fix-it utilities has a recovery/lost file program in it .
i think some of the other AV / tuning programs do to... symantec, ect..

Are you sure you are clean? Sounds alot like what happened to my ex-boss when he got one of those klez virus variants. It latched onto his netscape inbox with a vengance.

I'm clean. I'm 100% sure it happened because netscape was in use when my PC froze up. I recall times in the past when I lost user preferences (cookies, etc) but never crossed over and deleted all my mail!!!!
GRRR STUPID LOUSY NS!
I've got hundreds and hundreds of messages... I just didn't want to lose 'em. I've just started using Outlook Express, as I can't afford to lose all my mail like that simply when NS takes a dump.

I've restored a relatively recent backup that I just found.
Only now outlook doesn't want to import netscape files... it's odd. I can't find an "export" option with NS, either. Any suggestions?

actually, that's not a bad idea... what's the most stable version out there? 1.5 seems the latest

The latest version works just fine ...matter of fact they all worked great from 1.0 on for me .
Firefox does need a few tweeks though and extensions added for optimal function (this works great for 99% of the sites i browse ) AH score page isnt compleatly correct in Firefox viewing ,,, or the microjunk update page ,for those i use IE .
Firefox extensions : (these are addon downloads from there site)
Mouse gestures
image zoom
disable targets for download
media player connectivity
(Those are my main ones along with adding Java ,shockwave)
the final tweek is done here in the browser .
Type about :config
into address bar without spaces together.
locate network.dns.disableIPv6
Doubleclick the line to set the value to 'true'
Also locate:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxre quests
set "network.http.pipelining" --> "true"
set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" --> "true"
set "network.http.pipelining.maxre quests" to 30.
That makes your FF run like its on Nitro .

Those network tweaks do seem to have speeded things up.

Well damn! Firefox has no built in mail client!
That's what I use Netscape for, primarily! Mail! Since I can't get Outlook Express to import my netscape files, I don't know what to do now.

I now use Thunderbird exclusively at home. At work I have to use either Outlook Express or Outlook simply because of the function our software has to send orders, quotes and all other stuff via .pdf from the software. BUT at home as I said Thunderbird is and was a flawless rollover from OE. In fact its much better at automatically filtering out the crap than OE (even with proper mail rules) ever thought of being. I went from 75+ jumk emails to NONE in the first twenty four hours after switching over to Thunderbird from OE. Its a little hard to get used to but now after several months I will not go back for home use and I am helping some of the guys in the Thunderbird group by giving them ideas how to make T-bird better for corporate email actions.

Notice that this makes FF use 8 download strings. If a website only allows you one download at a time, it will count those as 30 seperate downloads instead of one.
