Title: Wilkommen aus Nord Afrika
Post by: Oldman731 on November 04, 2005, 08:00:12 AM
This is actually almost a rolling-plane-set progression from the past week's setup.  Our view shifts from the jungles of the Pacific and the skies over the English Channel to a European-only setting, as the armies struggle with:

North Africa - Final Moves

Pressed between the veteran British Eighth Army on the
East, and the green but eager U.S. forces on the West,
the Afrika Korps fights the final delaying action.

Allied Forces (Bishops)

On Land:
 Boston
 C-47
 Hurri I, IIC, IID
 P38G
 P40E
 M3
 M8
 M16
 Ostwind
 Panzer IV

On Carriers:
 F4F
 Dauntless

Axis Forces (Knights)
Bf-109E
Bf-109F
Bf-110C
C. 202
C-47
Ju-88
Stuka
M3
M8
M16
Ostwind
Panzer IV

Fog is set at 12.5 miles, the max
Fuel is 1.5 burn rate
Low-altitude ack is .5, puffy ack is .25
Friendly mid-airs are off.
Killshooter is on.

The F contributed in the N Africa area, why not listed in planes? Just curious.

CC, and it seems to be knight-rook, not knight-bishop when I was in there.

When i was in there this afternoon, (5pm GMT)  it was all set up correct. Then i got booted. All arenas (except MA) were closed for approximatly 10 mins. When i got back later the countries had changed. Knight had only one field, rooks had flight disabled, didnt check for bish.
Planeset was messed up as well.

The closing of the arenas must have been the problem.  I just went back in and fixed it.  Hope it lasts.

Thanks for the heads-up here, folks, wouldn't have found out for myself until much later otherwise.

...well...what "F" are you talking about?  The 109F is listed in the planes, as is the F4F.  We don't have a P-38F or a P-40F in Aces High.

If you mean the FW, I purposely did not include it in this setup because it would have to be countered by something on the Allied side, probably the Spit V (which, of course, also contributed in the N Africa area).  In my view, inclusion of the AH Spit V ruins any historical setup prior to the late 1944 plane set.  So, no Spit Vs, no FWs.

So let it be written.  So let it be done.

I'm sorry.. I was dog tired when I typed it (and that probably explains why I missed that it was already in the list). I meant 109F.

Never mind :aok

+16 boost Spitfire V is too much for afrika set up.

Will the new +12 boost and 120 round cannon Spitfire V be welcome with open arms when its released?

btw arent all spitfires in MTO used +16 boost? Spit 5s in Channel Front started using +16 boost as early as '42.

Don't know, 1K3.  History aside, it's really a matter of balance.  The old AH1 Spit V was still a fearsome opponent, but it could be managed by clever flying in an A5 or a Friederich (I do not speak from personal experience, but I saw it happen often).  We've found that putting an AH2 Spit 5 into any setup results in virtually all of the Allies flying Spit 5s, and Axis side getting worn down in numbers because most people won't put up with getting shot down all the time.

Yes to all three points. The old 12+ boost Spit V and 109F was a great matchup and it will be again as soon as the Spit update comes, IMO anyway.
