Title: Stockholders meeting
Post by: JB18 on November 06, 2005, 08:43:24 PM
Beating the "I can't get on" horse......
     Dear HT,
Seems we having some trouble logging on this evening.
This isnt the first time. Computers and the internet are very complicated. Any thinking person well admit that right off the bat.
It is also held as common knowledge that you have a very smart group of people working with you.

That having been said, I would like to know where I can go in the BB's to get an explaination of why this happens and at least a general over view of your plans to fix it. If there is not a location in the very well layed out homepage, I would also like to know why?
I mentioned being a stockholder is AH in my subject header and to one degree or another I feel that to be the case. I dont think a thread from you to adress an issue of this size(It affects everperson who is now or will be in 2 weeks, sending you $15 dollars a month) is asking to much.
The drum is beat loud enough when you have a new patch or plane coming out. We are all grown ups (for the most part). And im sure we could understand the tech aspect of any explaination you might can offer.

Please no more planes or frilly clouds, no more memory eating grafics fluff,  till we have an answer to this issue........................ ...                     with respect,   JB18

6 Years and AH has better uptime than my electric company.....and they charge a whole lot more than $14,95/month:eek:

You pay for a monthly service to connect. The 14.95 is in no way an investment made by you to HTC & Co. When you stop paying 14.95 a month, they stop service.

As for the internet, servers, routers, hubs and the like... Do you honestly think HTC can be or should be held liable for 3-4 hours of interuption in your service to use their product? They have absolutely no control over some things, and when they do go down, as they have tonight, they get up out of bed to rectify the situation.

This does not happen on such a frequent basis that its even worth mentioning.

sheesh morph...is Ht paying you on the side.  i see both points, but a line or 2 about what was up isn't too much to ask (or so i think).

it was weird to see people still inthe arena yet not be able to get in.

oh well..thats my $.02

I aree, HTC's services are great, no reason to blame them for 3-4 hours down in 5-6 years,

Well while I don't consider myself a stockholder, I am curious as to what happened. Hardware failure, software failure, AT&T screwup, power go down at HTC?

Inquiring minds want to know.

On a positive note: WTFG HTC and crew for getting the problem fixed as quickly as you did. Late Sunday night problem and it was fixed in a couple of hours. Not many companies I know of that would run in on a Sunday night to do that. Most would have let it sit until normal buisiness hours Monday morning. BIG guys, and thanks for all you do.

Well ...... Do you guys Have a job? And if so don't you have bad days ..... or maybe the product isn't the BEST or the WAY everyone wants it all the time. I can't get 5 Gal. of Gas for 14.95. Get a grip sometimes there are more then 500 people logged on at once. Not a bad day. Yes I had trouble Sunday getting on after all day with the family. And Yes I wasn't happy. GET OVER IT. If you dont like it dont PAY. And if you think you can do a better job Then Apply for a JOB DOING IT. And if you are DOING IT then you know it aint Easy. Oh and if you don't have a JOB  GET ONE :aok

Agreed.

No need to make a fuss about being an equitable owner or wanting $0.25 off one's monthly subscription rate because of the outage.  But it WOULD be nice to have a line or two saying something like "This is what happened, trying to fix it, suck it up."

"I mentioned being a stockholder is AH in my subject header and to one degree or another I feel that to be the case. "

You would be wrong in that case.

Stockholders HOLD STOCK...ie they own shares in the company.

You, and the rest of us here, are simply customers.

End of story.

No.  But it does make you a problem drinker.:)

Seriously, folks...when the net goes down, all the troubleshooters are thinking about is "wtfwentwrongandhowdoigetitbac kupandrunningomg".  They aren't thinking about your need for a progress report every 38 seconds.  In point of fact, your need for a progress report delays getting things fixed, because every progress report is followed by a question and answer session with the users as to why the wonderful system failed.

So usually, the admins just ignore the questions, and get on with the job.  Not just here, but everywhere.  And not just with computer networks, but with everything that ever breaks.

We posted what the problem was the same night it happened. See other threads.

As to what we do to prevent it, normaly we have a back up arean just for situations like this. But alas we were just in a final OS upgrade and didn't have a backup availible.

Jeepers! this is a tough croud.........
Looking back I guess using the term "shareholder" without clearly stating that it was only an intellectual analogy was rather short sighted on my part. what can I say, I figured that would be taken for granted......

I have thought since then that "symbiotic" would have been a better word to use in this situation.
I didnt ask HT for a refund. And I think doing so would be 'bad form"
By the way HT, Thank you for the reply! Im sure whatever growing pains High Tech Creations might be feeling will be straightened out in short order.
