Tried it, a friend sells the Buckeye. It was fun but rather own something that I don't pack in a bag.
There is a Citabria that someone tore down to rebuild 6 years ago. It's still sitting in the hangar just the way he left it 6 years ago. Might be a good buy. After I spend the time and money rebuilding it, I could get my money back when I sell it.

Ultra-Lights scare the hell outta me.
Wind Shear.
After 25 years of building and flying models (some for the Military) I can assure you; It can strike without mercy or warning particulary during approach or climb out.
Your only hope is to be in an aircraft that has weight; speed and/or a fair amount of power. Ultra lights just get smacked outta the sky.... and the pilot can do nothing but watch; horrified as his A/C suddenly loses all control authority; lift; altitude and hope in a few agonizingly long seconds immediatly prior to his entrance into eternity.
Seen two fatalites to this so far.. one while a discovery channel crew was filming... so sad.

Weellllll, how about this?

Rats. The original image showed the Benson Gyrocopter, with the pusher prop and free-wheeling rotor. Cost: about 5-7 K, I think.
When I lived in Michigan there were about 6 or 7 of them based at Gross Isle Island Apt. in the middle of the Detroit River. These guys had a club or something, because I often saw them about, flying in loose formations.
They seemed to have a very healthy initial climb rate, from what I could see. These guys would play follow the leader in those things, they looked like a string of beads on a long necklace, swooping, turning, zooming... looked like a blast. I'm sure these are safer than the powered chutes.
They were pretty noisey, too.
