I wouldn't mind doing it =) If u think im good nuff ill take my time! :D

I think it might take a while, because people have to start totally from scratch with the new skins. There will be a lag (in my estimation), then as people get over the first skin, they use their existing files as templates for new skins and the process speeds up.
That skin does look nice. Do you know of any 16s that had US markings?

Some VIIIs did, but I think we'd phased out of Spitfires by the time of the LF.Mk IXe and LF.Mk XVIe.
-
American's flew VIII's and some IXs as well as Vs.
Best bet is the MTO American Spit VIIIs. Very good looking camo and markings on those.
-
Is that the same as the SpitV with stars and bars? Tan/brown camo on the upper surfaces?

Similar to this. This one's a Spit IX, but you get the idea

And here is yet another one... A Greek Spit XVI which would add some nice diversity to the AFs in the game...

gosh darnit, we should have gotten the bubble canopy spit 16, that just looks to cool!
-
Dan - your request is my command, you've helped out so much in the past, how could I say no.
Is that Raymond Baxter from "Tomorrows World" fame?

Yep, that's him :) Flew on those low level raids in Holland in that bird.
Thanks for taking that one on Kev. You have lots on your plate no doubt :)

Greeks weren't flying them during the war like that however. You'll find lots of photos of poswar Spit LFIX/XVI with different markings. Problem is during the war they were flying under RAF control so basic RAF markings with small reference to their own countries.

Dan -
You sure thats the correct color for the rear band and squadron codes.
Looks very much like RAF Sky Blue as opposed to RAF Sky.

Could be I messed it up :) the 602 XVIs were based in England so they retained the standard nose and tail band colors.
It's these guys. Baxter is back and to the right in the photo, with his wing up missing the church steeple.
Note the upper wing roundels don't have the yellow surround of the 2 TAF birds or the white ring around the red.

-
CC - will do them standard RAF Sky then. Although its kinda hard to make out. Spinner if def RAF Sky.
I know by then sqn codes and tailband were RAF Sky, but doesn't help with the painting.
Prior to that the codes were a light grey.
Re- Upper wing roundels: Painting is pre Feb/Mar 1945 then, after that all 2 TAF birds had the other roundels.

The event depicted in the painting is the low level raid by 602 XVIs to the Gestapo building in the Hague on March 18, 1945. 602 was not part of 2 TAF
The England based Spit squadrons retained the more standard paint scheme while the continent based Spit squadrons lost the tail band and sky spinner while gaining the yellow surround to the wing roundel and the white ring too.
-
Ah, misunderstood your post, thought you meant they were 2TAF birds.
OK need an opinion -
Early early stages (been a pain lining up camo with no skin-viewer)
Your Sky Blue is the color of the codes, one I usually use is on the spinner and rear band.

Kev,
Should the lines around the cockpit window be black and that thick?
Tex
-
Its the join on the model, nothing I can do :( .
Other side.
Think the bulge on top of the engine cowling came out well considering its 'painted' and not part of the model.
-
Much easier with the skin viewer -
Few lineups to do, little chipping on the stb side it'll be done :)
-
Now that's some great work. Thanks Kev. It's a beauty :)
-
Right, I just saw that way cool spit XIV skin that Guppy posted at the start, I did not read the post all the way in, but it looks like Kev has done it, but how comes the colours are different ?
P.S Kev you skin is comming on great BTW.
Kazaa

Selector, are there going to be any DD strips for the Mk16 or any other Mk for that matter, I know DD was before the time of the plane, but did they still use them after the invation ?
P.S they look so cool.
Kazaa :aok
-
Don't think any XVI would have D-Day stripes, it was some time after D-Day XVI's became operational.
But you'll still see them on V, IX.
-
Just found A Spit XVI with DD strips, nice, googled it.
-
OK Dan, 2 changes -
a) The wing panels as decided from other thread.
b) Underside nose panel.
If your happy with the chipping this view, I'll do the other side.

Kev lower ops and set under panels and rivets.

Where Kazaa? Don't think you'd see one. Might be a Spitfire LFIXe misidentified as an XVI
I'm talking about a wartime one, not a restored bird btw :)

I was kinda thinking the wing root weathering was a bit extreme, but then went hunting for photos to support that and found most of the wartime photos showed it just like you did it :)
Looks good to me Kev
-
Thanks Dan.
Did the other side, if OK, will finish off a few little bits underneath, and thats it finished.
-
Can't wait to take that one up :)
Thanks again Kev. Great work as always
-
NICE WORK  , but the colours look wrong too me, or is it just me. I like skin that guppy posted, that thing looks super PIMP.
P.S keep up the great work
-
Beauty. :aok
-
