Title: Fog and really low clouds.. question
Post by: Scootter on November 15, 2005, 04:38:58 PM
Is it possible or even desirable to have from time to time a weather front to produce really low clouds or even ground level (fog).

I was watching a show about the Battle of the Bulge the other night and thought about the effect of bad vis. had on the battle.

I have been messing around with GV a bit and am still amazed at the super zoom effect we have.

I wonder how some fog would make things interesting fighting in low vis. conditions. We would need to get a lot closer and need to relay on hearing for G.V. fighting and low vis would have a great effect on close air support as well.

Could it be possible to have the program render clouds lower and not as thick? I don’t even know if this is possible or desirable.

What do you think about an occasional weather front passing through to change the dynamics of the action?

Not theater wide you understand like the night used to be but just an patch of bad weather passing across the war zone.

Comments??!

I like the idea and always have.

It would be important not to spread the weather over the whole map so as not to affect gameplay for those who only want CAVU weather.  They'd still have their fun.  On the other hand, for the strategic type players, it could present an opportunity for advance under the cover and the defending country's strategic type players could alert the furball type players that there is an impending battle.

Right, you got the idea.

Weather front passing from west to east slowly, you would know where its going and plan accordingly, like War 2 in Europe.

Not a large front that would take up the whole theater but something like 20 percent. And would pass completely over in say 90 mins or so.

Perhaps with embedded thick and thin patches (wisps of fog) to make you wonder if that is a tank out there at 800 meters or a log.

Or low clouds to force NOE runs to target with very limited vis. Easier to hide Goons.

Im with you on this idea. I've always liked the idea of some bad weather conditions. To take it further, rain would add an interesting aspect to the game.

There is a map where clouds seem to move in real low.

Nice Mac calling me a NOOB!

But somehow smoke garnades are not the same thing I was talking about.

But then being the God you are you, would know that, right?

In my best David Spaider voice   "NOOB indeed..... it is fun being me"
