Since patch 2.06.0 every time i transmit over radio (range or tunable) and *end* the transmission, my game pauses for the fracture of a second. Same sometimes when deploying gear/flaps.
First i thought it might be graphics, but reducing tex to 256, and reduce graphic settings to default didnt help (my GC should easily stomach those settings). Also tried updating my sound card driver.
I have a film of that happening. Ill send it in. What else info do you need Skuzzy?
-
What kind of sound card is it? Check for any interrupt (IRQ's) sharing between the sound card and other devices (Start->Porgrams->Accessories->System Tools->System Information).
-
im so confused! i cant find porgrams! :( :cry
-
HT is teaching him to spell :)
-
There was a SATARaid contoller on that same IRQ, that should have done nothing anyway.
Swiched it off in BIOS, problem persists.
Any other ideas?
Heres (http://www.furballunderground.com/freehost/files/26/DxDiag.txt) the DxDiag:

Skuzzy, i still have those probs.
While it doesnt make the game unplayable, it *is* very annoying....
-
Sounds like your sound card is hogging resources. Did you try turning the sound acceleration down?
-
I see it's a A7N8X-E it had onboard sound controller ?
If yes try to use it instead of the SB live.
-
Spoke with Skuzzy today on the phone....
He stated that in order for the game to run smoothly you need to have below 400M used in your memory when flying the game. You can do that by disabling skins, reducing your texture size to 512 or lower.
I have tried this and so far the microfreezes are minimized....still there occassionally but vastly reduced.
I also tried the deletion and reinstallation of the game as well as reducing the sound accelleration.
He stated that the new version has over 40 more skins and the resource requirements have gone up.
Dont know if that helps you but its a shot!
Regards,
Mike

Guttboy, that 400M had to do with your system having 512MB of RAM.

Ohio, i have sound accel to 3/4 (as recommended by Skuzzy), but even changing it down to no accel didnt help with the pauses.
Straffo, ill try that as soon as Schutts home and tells me how to do that.
Guttboy, as stated in my earlier post, i ran the game at minimum graphic properties (including textures, details etc, the only thing i didnt try was reducing screen resolution to 800x600). I dont think it has anything to do with graphics... im not talking about microfreezes that happen while flying.... These 'pauses' happen (and *only* happen) when i release the voice transmission button (tunable or range). No matter how many polygons or other planes are in the vincinity. Otherwise my game is running smoothly and stable at 75 FPS.

CC Skuzzy.....
Schatzi didnt know it was totally vox related sorry....
Skuzzy I did load textures in vid mem and it has fixed the problem for me. I did go ahead and order another gig of ram as well...LOL!
-
Dont worry guttboy, thanks for trying to help. I didnt want to sound ungrateful.... im just very frustrated right now :).
Straffo, tried the onboard sound controller. Its even worse. Thats why we put that soundcard in in the first place.
AARRGGHH!
-
Strange because I've a A7N8X as motherboard ,almost same chipset as your motherboard albeit older and I never had any sound trouble !
And I'm using the Soundstorm APU not any card like SB live.
-
I also have trouble with my own voice. It usually very squeaky and scratchy. I sound like a ten year old after three whiskeys and a cigar....
You think a new soundcard would do the trick?
-
The SBLive! is a CPU hog. The Soundstorm should have been better than the SBLive!
Very odd.
-
Yep,I trashed my SB live when I switched to a NF2 mobo.
Schatzi you removed the SB + the drivers before testing the Soudstorm ?
-
You mean as in physically remove? No, ill have to try that. Where can i get a hold of the drivers to delete them?
-
Just remove it , the driver should be removed by windows.
To check press Windows Key + Pause it should open the system properties then click of the hardware tab and remove all Sound blaster entries you see in the tree list .

How so? I've bee running an SB-Live for about 4 months not with no problems. Overall performance is outstanding.
Just curious.
-
Removed SB, swiched onboard sound on in BIOS and installed it.
Besides the fact that the sound is horrible and i get stutters when firing canons, the problem with the pauses after vox transmissison persists.
Im trying a reinstall of 2.06.1 from scratch on a defragmented HDD now....
-
OK, just did a clean reinstall.
On 'virgin' settings, all was well.
Copied backed up settings folder in: pauses were back.
Now i reconfigured my stick, keyboard, graphics settings etc, and just copied the files for head position and skin settings back in, seems to be working now.
Still dont know what exactly caused it, but its working now.
Thanks and >S< to all that helped!
-
can you send me a zip with your old and new settings ?
-
Youve got mail :).

Same problem here. I found out that it happens, when i have checked "Preload in system memory" and "Preload skins". If they are unchecked, problem don't exist.
This happened with 3D-Club R9250 and is happening with Sapphire X800 video card.
-
Actually, the preload of skins probably was the issue Bushwack. You need 1.5GB of system RAM (or more) to preload the skins and the textures now.
-
Thanks! Logging of and start saving for another 1 GB.
