Title: Payne Stewart's Plane?
Post by: aknimitz on December 20, 2001, 04:22:00 PM
Has an official comment been released on Payne Stewart's plane crash?  I know it happened a while ago, I just dont remember hearing anything as to the cause of the plane problems.

Depressurization.  Every report I heard cited that as the cause... not one refuted it.

The flow control valve which supplies engine bleed air to the cabin was closed for unkown reasons.  This was sufficient to depressurize the airplane.  It's possible that the crew closed this valve in order to deal with depressurization from another source, but there's no evidence of that.  It's also not clear why the crew were unable to use supplemental oxygen to save themselves.
