Now that even the Iraq govt. is asking for it, I think we have to call this one done, whether we like it or not.

CAIRO, Egypt Nov 22, 2005 — Reaching out to the Sunni Arab community, Iraqi leaders called for a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces and said Iraq's opposition had a "legitimate right" of resistance.
The communique finalized by *****e, Kurdish and Sunni leaders Monday condemned terrorism but was a clear acknowledgment of the Sunni position that insurgents should not be labeled as terrorists if their operations do not target innocent civilians or institutions designed to provide for the welfare of Iraqi citizens.
The leaders agreed on "calling for the withdrawal of foreign troops according to a timetable, through putting in place an immediate national program to rebuild the armed forces … control the borders and the security situation" and end terror attacks.
The preparatory reconciliation conference, held under the auspices of the Arab League, was attended by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Iraqi *****e and Kurdish lawmakers as well as leading Sunni politicians.
Sunni leaders have been pressing the *****e-majority government to agree to a timetable for the withdrawal of all foreign troops. The statement recognized that goal, but did not lay down a specific time reflecting instead the government's stance that Iraqi security forces must be built up first.
On Monday, Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan Jabr suggested U.S.-led forces should be able to leave Iraq by the end of next year, saying the one-year extension of the mandate for the multinational force in Iraq by the U.N. Security Council this month could be the last.
"By the middle of next year we will be 75 percent done in building our forces and by the end of next year it will be fully ready," he told the Arab satellite station Al-Jazeera.
Debate in Washington over when to bring troops home turned bitter last week after decorated Vietnam War vet Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., called for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, and estimated a pullout could be complete within six months. Republicans rejected Murtha's position.

I think if the soon to be elected govt wants a time table we should give it to them.
AND if they say leave now that's what we should do.
BUT untill the new govt is elected I don't think there should be ANY talks about a time table at least not in public.

yup I'd agree with that

I think the "timetable" talk is more of a political thing to get everyone together and make the new govt. not appear the enemy of traditional arab countries. There has been a worry for some time that many countries would not recognize the new govt. However they have recently begun trade talks with Iran and are now trying to distance themselves from us to both legitimize their own power in the eyes of their neighbors, and reduce the big target their troops have on them so long as they are working side by side with ours.

Does anyone else see that they are saying it's ok to attack the soldiers just not the civilians?

Yeah, they want us gone we should be gone, **** those ungratefull *******s.
The country will break up into three parts withen a few months of us leaving.
-
I don't know...I really don't see them as being ungrateful but more of wanting to get back to a normal life. Which they can't do with us there.
Like I said before if the new Govt thinks they can run things on their own then who are we to say no?

According to Title 22 of the US Code, Section 2656f(d), the term “terrorism” means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience.

I dont even see that we need a timetable. The man says they should be good to go by this time next year.
There's your timetable. Next year, our soldiers will be home for Thanksgiving.
Here's hoping.

When they pay us back all the billions we spent on the war not counting all the American lives lost there then they can tell us to leave .
Untill then they should just STFU.

Can we take our couple hundred billion of reconstruction aid back then?
How could they possibly return to normal after spending that kind of cash?

I think it's a legitamate point that the occupation itself fuels the insurgancy BUT you can't trade that in if you have no security so a comprimise needs to be found. If they ask us to leave well then I say we leave. If they ask us to stay, we stay and finish the job.

We are talking about the same people that wouldn't lift a finger to fight for their own freedom? The same ones that greeted our invasion with dancing in the streets and celebration?

We did leave em hanging pretty badly the first time around. Bush Sr. made promises and we didnt keep them. Alot of people suffered for that. I can see where there would be a few hard feelings.
