Title: I miss my friend
Post by: Eagler on November 22, 2005, 10:58:55 PM
his name was James, he was 35
he was my next door neighbor for the last 4 years
he was married with a 14 month old son
he had als, Lou Gehrig’s disease, for about 3.5 years
the sicker he got, the more positive he became
he died last Thursday, I had to call 911 to his home that morning, the service was yesterday
everyday he'd buzz the sidewalks in his wheelchair, sometimes with his son strapped to his lap - I miss seeing that out the front window
the family asked for donations to Tampa als in lieu of flowers
you can help fight this horrific disease here:

with your help, we can meet the families modest goal

I miss my friend

thanks James, thanks for letting me know you

Sorry bro.

Take solace in the fact that you were a good friend to him. Although in the 5 years I spent working with the disabled I always felt like I was getting the better of the relationship. People tend to step up and become downright heroic when the need arises. That rubs off on those around them. It sounds like he made a good mark on the world in his short stay. Can't ask for much more than that.

Eagler,

Although your friend is gone, he no longer has the wasted body he was imprisoned in and is at peace. He also has another thing to be grateful for in his life and that was his friend that misses him. Friends in times of trouble are rare jewels indeed.

Eagler,
You have warm memories...cherish them. He's looking down on you smiling.

My condolences on your loss. And God bless you for sticking it out with him.
I can think of few diseases I fear and loathe more. Let's hope and pray that Jerry and his people can someday soon put an end to it.
