Title: Video choppy still
Post by: JB39 on November 23, 2005, 03:33:36 PM
I cannot seem to get rid of the choppy video problem.  It happens when a plane gets close, 1000 yards or less.  I have: turned the audio accelleration down, no preload anything, all the boxes are unchecked for water waves, detail and so on.  I turned off all the background programs I could.  Still happens.  Have Latitude Laptop docked, 1.8 Ghz P-4, 1Gig memory, and a Radeon 256DDR PCI video card.  Anything else I can try?  I know of lesser systems and they don't run choppy.   HELP!!!

#1 DO preload.....you hit your hard drive less...thus killing the stutter that happens when you draw each new texture(you have pleny of vid. memory and ram)
#2 what kind of radeon(pci or pci-e)

the only thing other than that i can think of is there may be something runnig in the background thats suckin up your cpu cycles

Thanks for the advice, the video bus is regular old 32bit PCI.  Ran msconfig, and shut down alot of non-essential programs, and still have it.  I have the video in the game down to 128 instead of 256, no luck.  I also put in a sound card (PCI) and disabled Audio97.  I must be missing something......

Mine did the exact same thing untill I went into the bios and disabled the Intel CPU power saving.... it used to run between 700mhz and 2.2, now its at a constant 2.2. This will kill your battery life.

Check your net status and see if the variance looks like Michael Moores cardiogram, that'll tell you if your cpu is acting nutty.

TY, i'll try that.  I know I have the speed step, but don't know if its on or not, I docked it and moved on.

UPDATE:   That was it!  It was turned on in the BIOS.   I owe you a cold beer.    Works much better now! <<>> clicked heels, all that...

Right on!!!!... it was frustrating the living feces out of me.

This should be a perminant message in the WTF section.

FWIW AH is, so far, the only game that needed the cpu power saving turned off.
