I'm sure somebody already covered this, but I just have to put in my two cents.
British Group Takes Control of Formula One
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- British investment group CVC Capital Partners took a controlling stake in Formula One Group, a spokeswoman said Friday.
The price wasn't disclosed. Bayerische Landesbank and the family trust of Bernie Ecclestone have agreed to sell their stakes to the private equity group, she said.
I don't really follow Forumula One, particularly since the incident at Indy with the tires this season, but I thought it was curious that the series would be purchased after F1's big embarrassment in the US. Maybe the value decreased as a result and a quick fella decided to take advantage of an opportunity? Or has a sale been in the talks for awhile?

Even if the US Grand Prix was the biggest fiasco since a long time, the fact is the US Grand Prix isn't as important as european ones.
US citizen never really cared about it (NASCAR, Indy...) so the money isn't there.

I enjoy F1, Rally, Touring car races more then "American" style racing. IRL is usualkly running hte same trakcs NASCAR uses, just plain old ovals and such. Cart isn't very open, because of the "innuendo" tracks that are set up in cities. F1 road courses (while they still use some city streets) seem to generally be more open and FASTER. Maybe i'm just biased though.

I have started really enjoying endurance racing Le Mans style. The GT cars are dull but the LMP cars are really good looking and fast as heck. :)
This F1 season was excellent (apart from USA) but Bernie has been sitting on top for far too long running the show.

with all the tabacco addvertisement VERBOTEN to come to F1 i see the future of F1
around Asia where the main sponsors (toboacco) are still allowed.
Europe will not be the mainland anymore, and US & Canada F1 was just
an exotic add on anyway.
The result would be for me at least to watch live F1 coverage at 5-7am
lol i doubt this work.

I wanna see F1 cars go totaly insane in HP and back to slick tires. Fire out the exhaust and drivers complaining the cars are not safe. Bad thing about F1, not enough races in N America.

This is my favorite form of racing, too. I like the fact that there are cars I recognize (Corvette, Viper, Porsche, Ferrarri) racing at the same time as the elite LMPs. The Corvette team is phenomenal in their ability to race well against the LMP classes. They've pulled off some amazing finishes. I think this form of racing could eclipse the open-wheel leagues some day. I just wish the lower GT class race wasn't a mostly-Porsche event.
I've got my hotel reservations for Sebring 2006 all lined up. :)
