Title: Kotelnikov's Russian Aero Engines
Post by: joeblogs on December 01, 2005, 09:05:40 AM
Has anyone seen Vladimir Kotelnikov's "Russian Piston Aero Engines"?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1861267029/qid=1133449513/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-1900764-4428146?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

Is this a book worth having?

Well I like the fact he spends a lot of space on the lineage of the different engines, especially the direct & indirect influences from abroad.

The first half of the book is a set of topical chapters that is somewhat repetitive as it reviews the same historical developments more than once. He spends time providing a lot of institutional details that gets confusing fast.

The second half of the book reports on the engines themselves, and there tables of specifications in the appendix. I've not taken a close look at the engine specs yet, but there are better experts than I in these forums that can comment on the accuracy of what reports.

If you are interested in the genealogy of Russian engine designs, this is a very good book for you. For me, it was definitely worth the purchase price.
