Hi Mates
This is probably an old subject, but I think it is an important one.
I believe that we should have the B-25 in this program. It was the most widely used medium bomber in WWII. Every Allied country used this aircraft.
We should have the B-25C to fly off the CV's. This was the model used for the attack on Tokyo early in the war. We would take off from the CV, bomb and then have to find a friendly base as it could not land back on. This would take some expert fuel management, or it would be a one way mission.
We should also have the B-25H with the 75mm cannon in the nose, along with 10 forward firing .50's. Also carried rockets and skip bombs for attacking shipping. Would be an interesting weapon against fleets. Parafrags for airfields.
Wouldn't need the B-25J as we use the B-26 for missions that it would be used in.
I hope my old pals Hitech and Natedog read this email.
Cheers to all.

B-25C is needed, but should not be flyable off of carriers. One such use of stripped down B-25s in WWII does not justify making every purpose build CV bombers mostly obsolete.
-
If we get the B-25 we should have the C and the J, not the G or H with the cannon. Note also that the USMC flew a signigicant number (8 squadrons) of PBJ-1's (B-25's) in the Pacific, they used C, D, H, and J's transferred from the USAAF. Operational use started in March of '44 in the Philippines.

The B-25 wasn't intended to be launched off carriers. The B-25s that were used in the Doolittle Raid had to be modified to allow them to be able to take off from the Hornet.
B-25H with the 75mm gun was used in appreciable numbers in the PTO before being sent to the CBI area of operations. While it shouldn't be the main version we get, it would be nice that down the line the H does enter into the plane set.

yes they did but not to worry the AH broomhandle guns will shoot lazerwoodenchip projectiles that will knock down axis planes at ranges up to 5hunnertbazillion meters with no wood droppage.

I think we need 3 of them. We need the C and the J for sure. Both with glass noses. Then we need a solid-nose J with 8-pack in the nose and 4 in the cheeks.

The B-25s on the Doolittle raid only carried 4 x 500lbs bombs - you can put that loadout onto an Avenger now and get the same results. It'd be fun to try a taking a B-25 off a carrier now and again, but if I needed to get something at a base wacked, I think I'd be taking an F6F with 2 x 1000lb bombs and load of rockets.
That said - I still am in favor of having the B-25, various types and loadouts available. The 75mm anti-shipping variant would be interesting to try, and would eliminate the "bomber zapper" argument that is so prevalent in other threads discussing large caliber guns on Me-410s, Mossies, etc.
