AH'ers
Some know, 99% don't know that I am a US Naval Academy Grad (class of 1994). In the CT this week to celebrate the 106th meeting of the Midshipmen of Navy and the Assses of West Point, we are featuring a setup that pits the fighter aircraft of the US Army Air Corps versus the fighter aircraft of the US Navy.
MOTD;

the aircraft of the US Navy.

Navy Blue.
Pick a side, and let the battle begin!!!
Knights:
A11- Early models only; P40B,E/P51B/P47D-11

Big, grey, and underway. Thats why I joined the Army first. I can have my own tent to sleep in, solid ground beneath my feet and a decent uniform, unlike the Navy that sleeps 100 guys in a broom closet of a berthing area, get bounced off the bulkheads in heavy seas, and wears a uniform that has a cape with little stars on it, a scarf, and a hat called a dixie cup (kinda gay don't ya think).
Of course now I'm in a REAL sea going service. U.S. Coast Guard!!! At the most 20 man berthing, cool uniforms (solid blue BDU's), baseball caps standard issue, and maybe underway for a few months at a time.

Oh forgot this when I posted last night.
GO ARMY...BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF NAVY!!
-
US Coast Guard is part of the Dept of Transportation last i heard...unless it war time.

Wait a sec, the Navy's uniform includes a CAPE?
That's kind of cool...
-
HMM....I musta missed the "cape" issue day....DAMM!! :D
-
Did the cape have anything on it? Like an emblem? I'm talking something like a stylized bald eagle, a fist holding lightning bolts, a big S, a bat shaped thing, etc.?
-
I live like 25 minutes from West Point so you know who I'm rooting for

its not a cape. it is a traditional part of the navy dress blue and white uniforms. it goes back to the age of fighting sail when men would soak their ponytails in tar. they would wipe the tar on their hands so they wouldnt get rope burn. the flap on the back kept the tar off the main uniform.

Shining example why that uniform needs to be updated.
It is god-awful looking and (from what I hear) only Australian women like it.
-
they HAVE been updated. now they are exactly the same exept they are black.
-
Yeah they have a "little" cape so they can look like the super friends.
The U.S. Coast Guard is now the largest component of the Department Of Homeland Security. We used to be part of the Department of Transportation, and before that the Department of Treasury. 5th branch or the military but the only one authorised to conduct law enforcement within the United States.
-
That cape is kewel!
All you need is to make it bigger and wear big red pirate boots and evil-doers everywhere will be peeing their pants and running for their lives.

when I served we were issued uniforms like the officers wear except much plainer, you looked like a skycap at the airport. since the Navy didn't have any insignia at the time for E-1s, the uniform was really indestinguishable for a business suit except for the gay looking cap with a bitty eagle over "USN". you don't know how many times I helped people with their luggage while waiting to go home on leave. I always got a big laugh out of that when they'd go tip me and I'd say oh no that was a courtesy of the United States Navy, write your congressman and tell them what a good job we're doing.
