Ranking those wannabe's Prearl Jam over Nirvana is quite possibly one of the worst things someone could do.  It might even be music blasphemy.

Oh Yeah!! And "The Dark Side of The Moon" too.  I can't believe I forgot about those two...  As far as Supertramp goes, I always liked "Breakfast in America" better.  It's hard to pick just ten...

"Ten" is one of the most coherant, complete albums of the nineties.  I wish I could say the same about anything Cobain did...  I do, however, recognize his greatness and the mark he left.  "Teen Spirit" was as big of an eye opener for the people of my generation as the Beatles on Ed Sullivan were to that generation.

Somebody digs Yes.   I can't believe I forgot Rush!!  2112 is probably my favorite by them, although as I get older I find their later synth stuff more and more appealing;  "Time Stand Still" is beautiful both musically and lyrically.

Heheh, I knew Yeager would chime in with Yes.  :D

I am a fan also.  Hard to pick a favorite, but a few include "Heart of the Sunrise", "Long Distance Runaround"  and a great guitar opening on "And you and I", plus so many other great songs.

Breakfast in America was excellant, but Crime of the Century was my choice to check out and compare stereo equipment for it's clean sound and excellant music.

:aok

Nirvana pretty much sucked, except for their "Live in NY" album, which is great.

On reason it's great is because it's 1/2 cover songs, and it's stripped down from the "nirvana" watermelon sound of their studio recorded releases.

I could say the same about Pearl Jam.  Unplugged in New York is a great album but so are the rest.

P.S. Where is the Iron Maiden?

Did Pearl Jam have an "Unplugged" album?

I hate Pearl Jam and Nirvana, other than Nirvana's Unplugged in NY Album. Nirvana's Unplugged in NY is just great. A lot of the songs are cover songs, and done well.

Curt Cobain had talent, yet he didn't think he really did. Sad.

Rolling Stone and Guitar World are proper sources? People who buy the music are the one's who decide which bands are the best selling.

Best selling doesn't mean cchit to me.

No band will ever again have as  massive an impact that the Beatles have had on almost every aspect of modern music and marketing.

What was the hit on that one Dago?  Do you remember what year it came out?  The only two Albums I have by them are "Best of The Doobies" and "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits".  They had great harmonies and a great sound, especially before Michael McDonald joined them.  Jeff Baxter is one of the unsung heros of the guitar and his work went a long way to define not only the sound of the Doobie Brothers but also Steely Dan.  Believe it or not he was hired by the Bush administration as a military consultant.  He is  a self-taught expert in missile defense systems.

It came out in 1972.  Songs on the album:
   1.  Listen To The Music
   2. Rockin' Down The Highway
   3. Mamaloi
   4. Toulouse Street*
   5. Cotton Mouth
   6. Don't Start Me To Talkin'
   7. Jesus Is Just Alright
   8. White Sun*
   9. Disciple
  10. Snake Man*

Yeah, Skunk was an amazing guitar player.    I prefered the original Doobies when Tom Johnston was playing and singing, I was less thrilled when he left and Micheal McDonald came on board.  McDonald was good, but his sound was much differant and not the sound I liked.

Skunk becoming an expert in missle defense is amazing to me.  But he wasnt a dummy and we have to remember some of these guys often are quite intelligent.

Tom Johnston has been back with the Doobies for a while now, and Pat Simmons is still with them , but the originals otherwise are gone.

I remember seeing then in concert in Chicago in the mid 70s, Ti Porter on bass, Pat and Skunk playing, and 3 sets of drums going.  Amazing.

That's why you're here.  We just want everyone’s individual input.  You have a wide and varied appreciation of music.  However, the quote in you signature incorrectly gives credit to Janis Joplin.  The song was actually written by Chris Christopherson.

One of my guilty pleasures is preffering "Van Hagar" over "Van Halen".  I had 5150 stuck in my tape deck (1986) for over six months. It's still one of my favorites (that says a lot).  "Cliffs of Dover" in my opinion is one of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time.  It gets me going every time I hear it.  Have you heard any of the Cream reunion stuff?  It's really pretty good.  That was my favorite Clapton period (except when he was playing lead for the Beatles)

side note: You can't beat Van Halens first album.  It should be on someones list.

IMO, that list, and every other Rolling Stone list, is crap.

No way in hell would I put Kurt Cobain, Johnny Ramone, Jerry Garcia, and Jack White above EVH, Dickey Betts, Derek Trucks, and Dave Gilmour just to name a few.

Besides if you ask 10000 different people about the 100 best guitarists of all time, you're going to get 10000 different lists.  Also, most of the time the folks that make these lists are basing it on popular opinion, not actual skill.

Most excellent list.  I forgot about "Pet Sounds"!  A lot of the unreleased "Smile" stuff is available on the net now if you look hard enough.  It's some very interesting stuff.  You can see where Brian was going to go a few steps further.  It sounds very "Sgt. Pepper-esque".  Too bad he wigged out before it was finished.  He has recently rerecorded it and finally released it but I can't find it anywhere.

Man!  I forgot all about "Tommy" too!  I think they sent a copy of "Frampton Comes Alive" to every house in the suburbs.  Because of my age I was a Paul McCartney fan before I discovered the Beatles.  I have two copies of "Wings Over America" on vinyl.  I still haven't justified the $40 for the CD though.

BluKitty,

Looking at your list of artists I wonder if you are familiar with a guy named Ray LaMontagne?  He's a new artist and his album "Trouble" is incredible.  I highly recommend it.
