Posted this thread in the Films and Screenshots forum but thought others might enjoy it here.
I've posted a movie on the 412th website. Please visit:
http://brauncomustangs.org/site
There are 2 versions - a medium-res version and a high-res version. Refer to the instructions on the website to play the movie.
This was a little exercise in creating a movie using footage of the 412th in actual action set to music. It's my first attempt at a completed short digital film to experiment with some of the capabilities of the AH film viewer combined with some other movie making tools.
Hope you enjoy it!

Very very nice movie, downloading high res now.
I must say, one of the best AH movies I have seen.
-
Very nice! You had some of the best "kill shots" I've seen fimed. Flying through the exploding fireball and such.
Keep 'em coming,

AWESOME!!! That was cool, but I can tell none of those guys was me :(
When'd you film these? Before I even joined, no doubt ;) But I feel so overshadowed by you guys now... :(
lol j/k THAT WAS A GREAT FILM...Made my day, thanks :)
-
Great movie!
Thank you.
-
WTG Tango. A great film with a spectacular use of the music. It was so cool to have the action fit so well with the tempo and lyrics of the song. That is true production value and cinematography.
-
Best movie I've seen. You put a lot of "love" into that baby... and it shows.
Balsy
PS I think Skuzzy just found a NEW FEATURED MOVIE to put on AH homepage.

A question (or a few).
What program do you use to capture and what program do you use to compress aswell as what format?
Thinking about giving movie making a try and would like to know some good programs and formats.
Put together a move a long time ago but it ended at 900mb for a few minutes (think I got it down to 90 eventually).
-
Thanks again for the comments fellas. Glad folks are enjoying it!
Wilbus:
I used all of the following:
AH Film Viewer - camera angles and camera shots
Fraps - capture vid clips from AH films
Virtual Dub - clip editing (filters, crops, etc.) and compression
MS Movie Maker 2 - assembling clips into a production
There's a good tutorial on simhq that goes through the use of these tools (albeit written more for IL2):
How To Make Your Own Simulation Movies (http://www.simhq.com/_air3/air_116a.html)
From a compression standpoint it's a multistage process I go through.
(1)Clips edited in Virtual Dub saved in raw uncompressed AVI
(2)Final full production in MS MM2 saved in raw uncompressed AVI (for Mustang Rhapsody ~ 1.3 GB I think)
(3)Hi-Res version - production raw AVI compressed using XVID mpeg4 codec and processed through Virtual Dub. Result is an xvid compressed AVI file (1.3 GB --> 225 MB).
(4)Med-Res version - production raw AVI compressed using MS MM2 with it's built in windows media mpeg4 v2 codec. Result is a wmv file (1.3 GB --> 33 MB).
And the nice part...
Fraps is shareware - have to pay for it but really reasonable.
Virtual Dub is free!
MS MM2 is free if you have Windows XP!
Hope that helps!

Good film!
Where did you get that gunsight for the 51? I like it...
-
Aint that the NiK2 sight from Waffle?
-
That was great thanks for sharing. Tons of work went into it and it shows
-
Casper: The gunsight was something a squaddie helped me make 2-3 years ago that was a variation of his. I had him apply Andy Bush's (simhq.com) "deflection" rings to my squaddie's gunsite - inner ring - 0-15 deg deflection, mid-ring 15-30 degree deflection, outer ring 30+ degrees of deflection. Kind of a busy gunsite though but I find it has helped me more than it has hindered.
