NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Legislature passed a budget with no new revenue and abandoned plans for an income tax Thursday night after rowdy protesters stormed the Capitol, breaking windows and chanting "No New Taxes!"

Oops, I thought this was about football :)
As a Tennessee resident, I don't want my taxes increased either. But the problem is that this state's tax structure is porked (relying primarily on a high sales tax that keeps going up) and needs to be reformed. Also, TennCare, the state's experiment in health care, has been a disaster since introduced 10 years ago and sucks up an enormous, ever-increasing proportion of our tax money.
This budget once again just puts off the problem for another year, when hopefully we will get some legislators capable of doing their job. Until then, Tennessee will continue to rank almost last in things like education. (Unofficial state motto: "Thank goodness for Mississippi")
