Why didnt the Japanese invade Hawaii? Was it that they brought no landing force with the seeing it was so far? Or was it that the Japanese fleet was afraid that our carriers might show up and deal a deadly blow to them early into the game?
-
The goal of the attack was to destroy the Pacific fleet, which they did except for our carriers. This forced us to rethink naval warfare from Battleship based to carrier based.
-
I think the jist of the plan was to take out our offensive capabilities in the pacific to help protect their assets in Asia while they fought us off at a distance and negotiated a settlement that allowed them to keep what they gained closer to home.
Hawaii was just too far off to be held especially considering how stretched the Japanese were with the rest of their opening moves against US/Europe.

That was not part of the back door deal with FDR.

judging from what I've seen in the couple of trips I've taken over there. they must've figured it would be much easier to just buy up the islands after the war ended. at least that seems to be the plan they are going with at the this time.
