Looking for feedback on the fading method I am using.
So far I have faded the leading edges and roots of both the main wings and tailplanes.
Looking at less in the way of dirt of this, more in the way of fading and chipped/worn areas (not done yet)

Hrm... I can't see it. Looks semi-normal to me (with some weathering in general already in place).
If you want worn spots, I can offer a suggest that works great. I've used this on some of my LW planes but it takes a but more time. Create a new layer. For this paint scheme I'd take white as the color. Pick a relatively large brush (wish very soft edges) and with 100% opacity of the brush free-hand inside the margins of the darker of your colors. Fill in the middle and generally try to match the edges, only stay away from them. Then pick black, create a new layer, and do the same for your light color.
The premise is that dark colors will start to lighten over time, and light colors will start to fade. Now play with the opacity and blening of each layer. I found usually less than 10% was good but I had darker colors. With these lighter colors I'd say try copying what you did with "black" but do it in white. Toggle black on and white off (and vice versa) and see which looks better.
It should look like the paint is fading from the outside in, almost, and I've got some good effects this way.

Not sure I'd change anything. Looks pretty close to me

engine exhaust and gun soot? maybe you aren't that far?
but IMHO, the chipping at the wing root is just slightly over exaggerated. maybe just fade a little paint in at the edges, instead of the 0 fade/ 100% faded on off look it has at the moment
other than that, it looks really awesome! my fave skin on the old spit5 was the 244 sqn that looked very similar, MTO colours are my favorite.
keep up the good work kev, i can't wait!
and btw, is there any way just to sharpen the nose art? or is it limited by resolution?

Limited by resolution, looks like.

I really like the USAAF Mk VIIIs, they look great.

it looks good in the pics
does it have stressed aluminum rivet deformation too?
really been hoping skinners would catch on to that and abandon the ww1 tank rivets.
on most aircraft all you really see is the rivet deformation and in many cases you dont even see the rivets.

Took a short break, my eyes were starting to go all funny.
