Is there ever going to be a mac version? I cannot gain access to my windows computers anymore, and really love your game.Plus, if you made a mac version, you could gain more players and money because of the increased amount of users.
Im no mac expert (this is like my 4th day owning one), but from what ive heard, it would be very simple to make a mac version.
You may also want to publish linux version.
Please help a fellow out, i dont want to waste my time not playing AH.
Thanks for reading,

In a word. No.
And thats not saying it to be sarcastic
Hitech answered this very question about a year ago saying something to the effect that it would be cheaper for him to "buy a PC for every mac user then to develop a mac version of the game."
Those were more or less his exact words if I remember correctly
-
sigh.
O well, guess im gonna have to cancel then. Its been fun, toodles.
-
well why doesnt he buy them each one then?
-
LOL Just did a search to see if I could find the exact thread he said that in.
Seems the search engine cant count
I used
Aces High for Mac Users
.1.......2......3....4......5
Keep getting a message that search terms have to be at least 4 words
I guess 5 is less then 4 now?
Hmm could be. Would fit in with the "in two weeks" projections LMAO

Four 'words' or 'letters'? That error shows word length, not the total number of words in your search.

The *words* have to have at least four *letters*. The search engine doesnt care for how many words youre looking, just their lenght..... that will make it very difficult searching for this thread, as the 'key word' has only 3 letters....
I ran into this problem myself a while ago... it would be cool to be able to search for entire "word groups" by putting them in quotation marks.

Currently it would be a lot of work to program ah2 so it runs
on the Mac.
Performance on other 3D games with the current macs is not good either, so i doubt ah2 will run smooth.

AH2 runs smooth??? :O
:noid

I can run it 75fps with max graphics and water on without a hitch. Lag is the only thing that gets me choppy.
-
ahhh ok. I misread its meaning. Well then it should say it is under the minimum letter for a word length and not "Minimum word length(4)"

"You" can
Personally for me it ran better before they added the smoothing

Have You tried the emulators like Virtual PC. I think, that should work fine with AH.

What's a Mac?
-
i think its a type of hamburger made from rat meat and recycled cardboard
-
No, don't be silly. A Mac is like the Yugo of computers.
Furburger, you're thinking of the BigMac, which is primarily gill-netted dolphin, and domesticated cat. That rat and cardboard stuff is just a myth.

Thats the Whopper handsomehunk, BigMac is made from muskrat and snow frogs.

I dont see why Ah2 would run choppy on any mac, Since they are basicly built to handle graphic intensive programs. Besides, my powerbook 12" is twice as powerfull as my desktop which runs constantly 70fps on medium settings.
Get back on topic.
Good suggestion for the virtual pc program, but i can buy a cheapo dell for the same price for what they want for the stupid program.

When you buy a Mac, you basically put yourself outside of mainstream computing.
When dealing in niche market software, like AH2, the software vendors cannot afford to make a Mac version.
It is one of the big things to consider when buying a Mac. If you wanted to fly AH2, you should have gotten a PC. I know that there is this kind of "Cult of Mac" that always states how superior their computer and software is. But when I buy a computer I consider: "which one will run most of the available software out there?" And the overwhelming number of programs and hardware are targeted at the Windows PC. It is just the reality of the situation. To me the superior computer is the one that lets me run the most software, and has the largest base of global support. Plus, Windows PC are dirt cheap.
Enjoy your Mac, they are nice PC's :)
I think there are other flight sims out there that will run on a Mac. You may want to search that out.

I heard a semi-credible (but not totally credible) rumor that MAC is going to stop producing PCs and move entirely to iPODs and the like (small accessory stuff).
EDIT: By that I mean there's more money in it for Macintosh to make newer things that have a greater market demand.

I have been doing my jobs and real works with Macs since 1986, beside my hobbies with PCs...;)
There has always been "rumours" concerning the Apple and Mac...Some day they will stop the manufacturing of machines, other day they will stop the software developement...
Let me have a LOUD laugh!
Who of You would have believed 2 years ago that IPOD/Itunes is the world-leading netmusic-distributor? Honestly?

Numberz,
When the Intel based Macs are released you might be able to do a dual-boot system with them so that you have your Mac and a WinXP system as well.
As to your claim of "Since they are basicly built to handle graphic intensive programs.", well, they are built to handle 2D graphics for doing design layouts and video editing and the like. 3D graphics are a totally different thing and they have no advantage on the PC in that regard.

Mac will probably not go away. If they have problems Microsoft will probably give them some money to keep them going to avoid a monopoly. Microsoft has already done this. Micro$oft wants to avoid monopoly, and they are so big that Apple is hardly a threat inspite of what you might read in Mac World.
Macs are just to costly for businesses to run (not talking graphics/video business here). But the average IT department is so Microsoft entrenched that to retrain it would cost a fortune. That is why you see that most businesses realize that for many server apps, Unix/Linux are more costly than Windows. For some applications of course Unix is more stable, and is the logical choice. But linux costs more to support. These are not speculations, check the data. And it is on hard facts that businesses run, its called "the bottom line"
Also, as you will have noticed from Zuum's post, Mac has this almost cult like following. Like Harley-Davidson, if you can get a customer to tatoo your logo unto your body, you have a customer for life.
The iPod has been a great boon to Apple, and well done.
Apple has moved or is moving to the Intel processor. This should cut down on thier costs. They are already using a lot of industry standard hardware to help with costs.
But in the world of computing, Mac is a side show.

I am not sure that Intel based Macs will use standard X86 architecture. They may be set up for optimization with Unix, and not Windows compatible. And from a marketing standpoint, I don’t think Apple would like to release a OSX that would run on a standard PC. That is a can of worms Apple has never opened, as that would put them head to head with Microsoft. Their hardware has always been a motherhood issue with Apple.
I haven’t researched this, as I find that the whole Mac/Windows war is not only boring, it is over. Only Mac aficionado’s don’t seem to know that yet LOL!!

I am sure they won't, but Microsoft and other PC hardware companies may very well release drivers that would enable WinXP to run on the Apple's Intel Mac hardware.
I don't consider it a war, it is just technology and the market. You pick what is best/cost for the job.

Well, lets put it this way. My mac, has a better video card than any other computers in my house, its better for 3d in every way.
And, the power mac has the biggest video card that can be put into a computer(besides custom PCs, which you can do anything.)
Those emulators are nice, i will eventualy buy one.
Never going back to PC. Mac and I are friends now.

LMAO...lets recap Uncle Bill's operating systems...
He "bought" DOS from someone that didnt legally own the rights to it
He stole Windowz 1.0 from Mac
And he drove OS/2 out of the market, the bought the rights and reissued it as Windowz NT.
Funny guy that Bill Gates.

I remember how they priced their first computers. If Apple had their way, we'd be paying $6500 for a personal computer.
Funny how Apple is the "antiestablishmentarianism" darling. They're an example of the dark side of capitalism. They deserve to fail miserably. Too bad they found a profitable product in the music player thingy. I'll never own one.
HONK!
Gooss

Well, Numberz... you have to remember that most of the guys posting here don't have a Mac with OSX or Tiger, so they don't know what they're talking about. But that has never stopped this crowd - they'll gladly give you their opinion about books they've never read or movies they've never seen, too.
HTC chose to use DirectX for video and not porting to Mac is understandable, based on that choice.
Sure, Apple has gotten a little behind in processor speed; that's why they are moving to Intel chips. The notebooks will be first to move. All indications so far are that you will be able to dual install Windows on an Intel-based Mac. But, you won't be able to install a Mac OS on a Windows machine.
I don't think you're going to be happy with any PC emulators. You might be better off putting that money into either a PC, or an Intel-based Mac next year. Aces High runs great even on Win98SE.
And just so you know, I'm a satisified, paying customer with a PC just for this game. There isn't anything I can't do better and easier with my Mac and Tiger OS. Good luck with whichever path you decide to take.
-
Oh puh-LEAZE rolex.. I've been using OSX and Tiger for a long time now, for work and video editing and sound editing. You want to know the NUMBER ONE reason mac sucks?
Because every Macintosh is MADE by Macintosh.... You *CAN'T* just go out and buy a Dell, a Gateway, a fill-in-the-blank MAC with OSX on it. You CAN'T because they don't allow them to, from the way I understand it. If maybe they had concentrated on making the OS more of an OS (secondary to the machine itself) then for one we'd have better hardware for the MAC, we'd have better hardware support, we'd have a better more stable OS (it wasn't til they stretched into unix that they became stable, and it still crashes more in one week than my PC did in the past 5 years).
The reason MAC is and will always fail is because they only sell all-in-one packages. And those packages SUCK. If they would branch out into hardware AND software, and keep the two separate, the OS/MAC combo would be far far better today than it currently is.
-
Ok someone bring me up to speed, was it the Big Mac or the Sonic #1 that had the muskrat?
-
It's the Sonic, Bob, I think. However, since that sonic guy bought the rights to a recipe using foul-tasting aquatic wildlife from a guy who didn't technically own the rights, I'll never purchase one.
-
Apples arnt actualy behind in speed because they put out there power at about half the watts of a pentium. Plus OSX runs a bit more clean so it can run more programs without it lagging. And wtf are you talking about, my PC crashes like a million times more. Since ive gotten this, nothing has happened. AH crashes all the time on my PC. I'm not looking towards the pentiums because the power will drain much faster. I only wish they found a way to put the powerpc 5 processor in, but the proccesor would run so hot, that they needed abesto shorts which cant be found in great quants.
And guys, im not a handsomehunk, ive owned like 5 Pcs in the past 15 years, infact, i still own 2 of them. I would have perfered to have it on my notebook, since this thing is better than my desktop in everyway.

Hope you dont think he invented the "windows" concept.
Both Mac and Amiga were using the same concept well before windows ever came out.
I remember when windows first arrived I walked into my then bosses office to check out what all the hubub was about.
(Since he was proudly showing it off to everyone he could like a newborn kid I figured why not)
I took one look at it. Fiddled around with it for a minute. turned to him and said.

The sheer arrogance of the Mac user crowd never ceases to amaze me. "so they don't know what they're talking about. But that has never stopped this crowd " Really, you have no problem coming in here and saying that?
Mac users see themselves as the intellectual elite, condemned forever to have to live in an unwashed world ruled by the Neanderthals who use Windows. Oh, if they could only enlighten the rest of humanity. But alas, the rest of the world can never seem reach their lofty level of intelligence.
AH2 is a Windows world, like most of the rest of the world. Go print your propaganda on a Mac world page, live in your artsy reality, while the rest of the world is really unaware of your existence.
Go away,
And take your Mac with you.

Thank you for saying what I could not.
I have a few Mac Friends and this is right spot on... As they slowly fade away from the market they toss barbs and hope to hurt someone. And the sad part is that 25 years from now some 17 people will still cling to the dead dream... Its more of a disease then an operating system... Go be chronic... Leave us alone you mac leper.

I am in the webhosting business... currently less than 2% of the traffic on our servers come from MAC computers, Less than 1/2% run Linux... This is down from 1998 when Linux had about 3% and MAC just over 6%... With those numbers who cares about programming for such a small clique?

Ever seen the guy who decided to make a RAID array out of USB floppy drives? Didn't figure so. He did that on a MAC.
Wich is why I use a PC. :lol

All the artwork and video editing where I work now is done on Macs. And the machines crash. A lot. Everything else is done on Windows. Also a much higher percentage of the fashion & entertainment sector here in LA use Macs than Windows ... for email and web browsing mainly ... they got 'em cuz they look prettier.
I owned Macs for years and years and loved them. Sure, they crashed a lot. Sure, there was an almost cult-like manner of interacting with them (the extension managers being a shining example of boot-time magick). But they were easy to use, fast enough, and had software that the PC didn't.
When all the main-line software the Mac had was also on Windows the balance started tipping. At least for me. The notion of having to upgrade every piece of software twice (once for Win, once for Mac) started getting very expensive. And the equivalent Windows machine cost $1000 less than a Mac. If you could *get* a new Mac. Apple had this wonderful habit of announcing new machines as available months before they could actually deliver them in volume.
Then there was the years and years for OS/X to come out. The "stable" OS. That's when a lot of people I know bailed on Apple.
Apple did it to themselves. They wanted to make a computer that everyone could use and priced it out of reach of most average buyers. Then when MS and the Pentium-based PC's started gobbling up the people who couldn't afford a Mac they catered to the media elite sector (graphic artists, video editing, music).
And the Mac isn't the only example of Apple missing the target. The Newton was the first real PDA. It was an awesome little machine - the Palm still can't connect data the way the Newton could. But Apple either didn't see a future in PDA's or who knows what and bailed on the entire sector. Now 15 years later PDA's are in cell phones - millions and millions of cell phones. Good move, Apple.
In 1984 they advertised at the SuperBowl - when's the last time you saw a TV ad for a Macintosh? It's really a shame that a company which could do so much innovative work couldn't market their way out of a soggy paper bag.
In terms of AH ... it doesn't make business sense to spin up a Mac development effort. It won't reach enough people to generate the revenue to pay for the extra development staff even. Not to mention the extra support staff needed to learn all the Mac weirdness. Plus having to qualify every release on two platforms - that would redefine "two weeks" in ways that the 97% of the player base wouldn't appreciate.

It's not who invents it, it's who gets off their butt fast enough to use and/or patent it. :D
-
Case in point: MS now holds the patent for the iPOD. Macintosh didn't get up off their collective arse fast enough to patent it in time. Somebody got fired for that oversight, no doubt.

You misunderstand, AKFokerFoder+ and some others. I'm not evangelical about any OS; that would be silly.
I think it's fair to say that none are perfect and the applications are more important.
I also think it's fair to say that I am probably still right, since most of the complaints are (understandably) pre-OSX. I gave up on Macs about 9.0, but was surprised when I saw, then bought, an OSX model. I was very clear about OSX/Tiger and also that HTC not supporting Mac was reasonable when I posted. Let's see if I'm right, okay?
What Mac model and OS do you guys have? And what is bad about your Mac OSX system?

Apparently I did not clearly articulate my hypothesis.
A. AH2 is a Windows world.
B. Most of the rest of the world is a Windows world.
C. No matter how good Macs are or are not, A and B will not change in the foreseeable future.
D. Most of us are quite apathetic of where or how Macs are used, if they exist, or where they are going.
It may be a bit hard for those who are immersed in Mac culture to assimilate D.
If you wish to make a point, state a hypothesis, or engage in intelligent debate, we are always at your service. But Sir, when you come in here and arrogantly dismiss us as you did with such disparaging remarks, can you expect less than a favorable response? The hostility you encountered was due to your unprovoked attack.
I am an arrogant and opinionated sim pilot. But I am not above apology or reconciliation.
In simple terms for all us Windows Neanderthals, what I was trying to say was this. “It ain’t what ya’ll say (spit) , it’s how ya’ll (spit) say it. Anyone got any Redman? I seem to have run out (spit)

Lets recount again...
"Windows and mice" were stolen from Xerox by everyone including Apple and Microsoft.
OS/2 was actually written by MS.
BTW, I share an office with a crapload of Mac people... technical Mac people. If you think Mac's and OS/X are superior, let me know, and I will fill this thread on the crappier side of Mac's. Windows and PC's ain't perfect, and neither are Mac's, despite what Mac owners think.
The biggest problem with the Mac is there are still fundamental problems getting the basics done (VPN clients for example, are a pig, antispyware for example is non-existance... despite the existance of mac spyware and exploits).

I dont like Mac's, I just think Bill Gates is teh devil.
