They do that in our inner cities, but only with a TV slung under their arm.

I'm just kidding,lol
-
How about that French rap music?
-
you don't want to know, Grunherz..
-
Do tell us Moot, take pride in your french experiences! :)
-
somebody get that kid a Spiderman costume
-
Pride?
Grunherz, let's just say Vanilla Ice pales in comparison :lol
Some of the stuff is good, but it's a bit like Drum-n-bass or Hardcore, a few minutes and you'll have had enough..
Either it's real mellow and sounds like cheap plastic imitations of RnB, or very hardcore and stale. A snooze either way, for most people.
I guess it's a product of the environment, and besides a few who really tried to transcend the usual '(I'm) living in this dump and the world/society/humanity sucks'.
French rap has the same engrish false notes as every other cultural fad that strikes a chord in a culture foreign from its own, where certain parts are toned down and others up. Comparatively to the original, it's disproportionate and becomes something of its own. Sometimes it works (if that even means anything more than comercial success), sometimes it doesn't.
It's not to discredit all of it, because there are some very good continuations of innovations of the american stuff it grew from, but overall the quality is lesser, either from the cheaper production, or lack of self-esteem/culture - to call em like I see em :D
MC Solaar was one of the more mellow MCs, and really had talent, literaly. He had good-natured, authentic charisma and plenty of creativity. It translated very well in his stuff, and the french language was a fertile medium for it, but hip-hop culture mostly grew away from this and soon enough he (since his stuff wasn't just ego-trip abstractions) was too 'pop' for most.
In my opinion he really did transcend 'hiphop', but most people think he's just a wimp. Nice guys finish last.
I could go on, because there's a lot more to it, e.g. the corelations to the society and culture that feeds on it and that it feeds on (particularily the political character which is pretty common), but that's pretty boring, as you could probably do the math yourself once you recognize it for the fasion/social phenomenon it is.

I haven't kept in touch with the latest developments of the 'scene', but from the bits I do hear, it hasn't changed much.
Art is always art, and seeing enough from a particular, average artist, you get a sense for the stuff, and start being able to see it exactly for what the artist meant it to be. It decides how soon you outgrow what the artist has to offer, in the case of french hiphop, it's relatively quick.. the width and breadth is pretty limited, and it's not really evolving that much.
A broken record, basicaly.

OT:
PH is still down for a couple of reasons:
1- I need to pull my finger out of my arse.
2- All the files are there, most of the database is up except... the one holding the files. The data is too large to pass through a web based SQL admin (I get a timeout). And I cannot use an SQL client from the office (port 80...)
3- I just moved (again) and will have to wait untill end of January to get a phoneline/dsl at home.
As it is now, I could open it, but the record to the previous hosted files will not show up. (you can however link to files you posted prior to the shutdown)
Hopefully, I'll be able to do the sql client thing when I go to my parents for Xmass.
/OT

I'd love to see the cops try and catch this guy.
They'd probably shoot him out of frustration LMAO
On another thought.
Assuming that was filmed in russia.
Russia sure does have alot of abandoned buildings

Before breakup many buildings were being built all round nation. All construction stopped after collapse, and half completed monstrosities stayed there for almost 10 years. For many children those things became a playground. During last trip to St Petersburg, all of my old playgrounds were finally completed, but since unofficially St Petersburg is considered as the Russia’s capital, I’m sure it is much worst in small towns/cities.
(In other words, those monstrosities are the fruits of liberation ;) )

This is not about respect; he says things as he see it. This is about western ideology of a ‘nice life’ is. There is no argument that of applying western view, Russia is full of poverty which makes it a ‘craphope’. When applying east view to west, idea reverses.
-
People in Russia and old Soviet eastern dominated think western life is a craphole?
Is that why they built walls around their countries, to stop the western craphole life from intruding into the idylic soviet paradise?
Even back in my youth in Yugoslavia, the nicest most open communist state most people looked to the west, whether western europe or usa, as a source of great opportunmity and hope for better life in many ways.

The great opportunity is from a monetary perspective, right? I do not disagree with that. But what about people, culture and its values; can they be bought with money? I say there is a fundamental difference between two. It’s like comparing US in 50s and in current day. People from 50s, looking into future, would not want to live here, just as current people looking back into past.

this is really interesting to me...
I have had both russian and grun to my home and went shooting with them at the range..
I like both guys and think both are bright young men.
Russian is right... probly our way of life seems "strange" and maybe undesirable (craphole) to some easterners and I could understand that... it has it's crappyu aspects (stress etc.)
grun is also correct... for an individualistic and materialistic person or person who is ambitious for himself and his family... it is impossible to see things from the eastern viewpoint.
as for respect..... like I said... I like both guys... I think they are both moral and bright lads... call that respect.... or don't
