Take a game that already features play acting at even the hint of contact and add helmets....

You do not understand the litigous nature of our society, do you?

We have to protect ourselves from ourselves, so when the protection fails, the lawsuits get really big.

They won't stop until we're all locked in padded bubbles, and they control the bubbles.

Well did live in the US for 4 years so I have had some taste for it, and having spent 2 of them in Boston it doesn't surpise me that this is happening in Mass. in the least.

The US isn't the only place that people are trying to win the legal jackpot these days.

No, no Tarmac.  You miss the point.  You know why we have air bags in cars today?  Because dead people cannot sue. :)

By protecting the heads of the players, we are assured they will be able to testify in a civil court.  See.  It all has a purpose.  :D

I've had a few instances on the field where a helmet wouldn't have been a bad thing. Headfirst into a goal post (several times). Head to head impact at full speed runs. Got tripped and somebody kicked me in the head on more than one occasion, usually intentional. Been in and refluffied a few games that were stopped for fighting.

I came out alright. Minus the twitch. :huh

Still wouldn't wear a helmet though.

It actually works the other way too skuzzy.

Motorcyclists don't have to wear helmets anymore in PA.  Dead people can't sue and don't cost much to the health system.

Settle down MT, I am trying to get a whole line of paranoia cranked up here.  :)

PA must not have enough lawyers in control yet.  Give it time.  :D

if your kid wants to play soccer, it's too late for a helmet.

It was the health system that "Assured" the no helmet law got passed.

i played soccer for 5 years and i NEVER saw anyone get hit in the head by anything. this sort of wussy parenting is turning our nation's youth into a bunch of nancy boys. i remember one of the goalies on the first team i was on got smashed by about 3 other players. today's kids would cry for mommy (i have seen it many times), but that guy just stumbled up and stayed in the game (BTW he was about 6). and that was only 13 years ago.

EDIT: if me kid ever runs up to me and tells me that some kid hit him, i will respond "well hit him back, ya nancy boy".

Yeah, god forbid people play a sport where you don't get to take a break every 10 seconds and talk about what to do next :D

It's a ridiculous law. Children should not be required to wear any protective equipment what so ever. There's too damn many of them already. Noisey bastards.

You have to use your head to direct the ball, a helmet would restrict gameplay, so you can't relate it to football.

I did find this quote amusing though

"Moreover, soccer helmets ''will look silly," said Stephen DeFranc, Weymouth High School's athletic trainer. ''It'll look like football."

lol, it is football!

Well, let me tell ya, we would have to run from the high school to the stadium for(to get there to practice) football practice. On the way I would notice the soccer team practicing. Their practice was running, and running, and running. They ran up and down park ave, mountain ave and proctor ave. They are long hills of streets that run all the way to Everett. I couldn't do it. The worst words from our football coach were "tomorrow bring nothing but your helmets and a pair of shorts"  wind sprints...both sessions...suk!!  Those soccer players were in great shape, I couldn't run everyday like they did, i'll give them credit for that.

in my beloved florida we are not required to wear motorcycle helmets, our thugs usually only shoot each other or eurotourists, we law abiding citizens can shoot each other legally if we look at each other crosswise and we have a very large population of lawyers which grows exponentially larger daily.  something is wrong with your conclusion.  oh and come visit florida, we weren't shooting at you.  :D

In my opinion.... making the kids wear helmets is like admiting that you are allowing them to do a dangerous and irresponsible thing that has the potential for maiming or killing them and that you should be held responsible since all you did was provide inadequate helmets.

It is a self feeding monster.

Good lord, I played soccer for 5 years.  Kids these days are sissified.  Screw the helmets, injuries are bound to happen in sports, you accept liability.  You don't want that liability, keep them in your house where they can bust open their forehead on the coffee table.
