Post by: Ripsnort on July 18, 2001, 11:09:00 AM
Jet Exhaust Staged test (http://www.matthoffman.cc/bb/blowout.mpeg)

Just under 1 meg  file.

I never realized that it could take a car and hurdle it that far!  Test bed was 4 engines off a 747.  Biggest blow job I've ever seen!    ;)

EDITTED SHOULD WORK NOW! THKS SOB!

Anyone have the film of the Navy serviceman being taken off his feet and sucked into the intake of an aircraft?  I remember seeing it once and a friend of mine just asked about it the other day.

If I remember the serviceman survived because his clothing got caught on the airframe.

There was a 172 up here that taxied behind a 727 (or similar heavy, I forget which) while it was doing it's run-up.  The result:  The 172 was on it's back and the absent-minded pilot's ego was severely bruised  :D  The plane was written off.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine who had just gotten out of the navy showed me a video that he snagged from his ship.  Some poor sole go sucked into an a6 engine, nothing but red goo came out the back end of the engine.  10 seconds later they launched the plane and some dude was hosing down the deck, while they pulled the next plane into position.

realy sad....

after the gulf war a fire fighting team from a eastern euro country ( forget which)showed up to fight the oil well fires, they had a truck with 2 mig jets on the back, they backed up to the fire and with the jet exaust and water spray blew out the fire

A powerful tornado has wind speeds around 200 mph.

The speed of the 747's exhaust stream can be up to 500 mph once the engines spool up.

Oh and just about any twin engine prop plane has enough propwash to flip over a Cessna  :D

I've seen A film of a guy getting sucked into an A6.  In fact I have a copy of the .mpg.  The guy survived with relatively minor injuries - there is a shot of him an hour after the incident sitting in his bandages.

I believe it can be found here: http://www.punchbaby.com/media/laters/clips/sick/suckplan.avi (http://www.punchbaby.com/media/laters/clips/sick/suckplan.avi)

or: http://www.aagsc.org/miscellaneous/intake.avi (http://www.aagsc.org/miscellaneous/intake.avi)

As I understand it, his helmet damaged the engine and the pilot immediately shut down the engine.

No way Udie .. a big bird is already a REAL show-stopper on a jet engine, no way the engine'd coninue running if a guy got sucked in.

I've done a few borescope inspections on bird-strike engines and i tel you it's not pretty when a 500g Seagul enters the gas path of a CFM56...

That's what I would think too!!!! But I saw it with my own 2 eyes, about 50 times in a row.

i've seen a Prat&Witney 4000 at the Lufthansa Shop in Hamburg .. the engine was sitting there since a while after they started teardown.. cause no-one wanted to work on it and they had to find out what the legals had to say about it ..

the reason was that the engine came in with the remark FOD.. well everything seemed as if it was abird .. a huge one at that cause the fan, Booster and pretty much all the compressor were pretty much desintegrated (Fan Blade out, whole N1 System tumbled and tore up everything) .. well they found out it wasn't a bird but a mechanic who had been sucked in .. now that was a 96inch fan PW4000 and the ting was wrecked .. i find it hard to belief that a jet engine (albeit smaller fan and therfore stiffer blades) would continue running and even if so it would actually been flown without inspection.

Udie, I've seen that film in every GenFam aircraft class I've had in Chicago. Another words, ALOT.

The guy was not seriously hurt, and what you see coming out the tailpipe is his flashlight.

I thought it was highly amusing, concidering who's fault it was getting in that predicament.
