Title: Good FPS?
Post by: Urchin on December 18, 2005, 04:12:53 PM
Is the BF2 expansion pack worth getting?

I get bored with WoW, running MC over n over n over again without ever getting any drops gets old kinda quick.  So, when finals end in a couple days I'll probably be looking for a new game.

BF2 was pretty fun, I havent played it in a while though.  Usually EA releases games that are bugged to hell though, so have the kinks been worked out of the expansion yet?

Any other decent FPS games out there?

the BF2 expansion is really just more of the same.  It's still buggy as it always was and the new maps just don't seem to have "it."

the best FPS i've played recently was F.E.A.R. but be warned, it eats graphics cards for breakfast.

FarCry with the graphics maxed out, if you haven't done it yet.
Call of Duty 2 is good, a bit short, and the friendly AI is almost useless.
I think there's one or two good online FPS like OFP coming out soon..

theres nothing better than operation flashpoint. even single player is almost more fun than any online game due to the spectacular mission creator on maps that take a week to walk round. the online mod's are so many you cant get them all, right now i have US rangers and special forces with all the gear fighting some desert towel headed chaps with lots of rpgs and aks defending bombed out buildings between palm trees. with a PC that runs AH smoothly at 50+fps you will be able to put between 1-200 military units down and run full res and details without trouble.

then, if you're not a madly creative person building the maps up and setting all the units up is tedious. and there are alot of small files to find on the net to make the game perfect in anyway you like from lego men to taliban..

and there is always someone playing it online.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

Comes out in January as a stand alone much upgraded game, but you can play the current version (3.3) if you have UT2004. If you like realism, it's the game to have, although the version released in January will be practically a new FPS.

I fell kind of ripped off buying the expansion back now. It's really just a quick mod. The maps have few new props but the majority are rehases of the objects in the orginal game. I'd sell it if I could, but it's the downloaded version.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45  should make up for this crappy purchase.

FEAR rules.  Not very scary, but the gunfights and slowmotion are great.  Pretty good AI too. :)

Oblivion is due in February.. never played the first three, but this looks amazing:
