I am just sick of this game.
After the 109 stuff, and fighting the damn video problems I have had since version 2.6, rubber bullets,....
I am hopefully getting a NIVIDIA 7800 video card for Christmas. Maybe the hardware issues will be cleaned up once I get rid of the kee rap ATI X700 256MB video card and replace it with something that works in AH2.
And maybe I will have a better attitude.
And maybe I wll learn how to fly a Spit or an LA. I am tired of trying to fly the German junk just to prove I am not a Spit Dweeb.
Most of the rest of the AK's have left AH2 for WOW. I will get the game and join them for a bit.
I am not closing my account or quitting, (unless HT throws me out). I am just taking a breather.
I can't believe how bad I suck at this game. K/D 1.5 this month... tonight got my butt handed to me by a KI84 when I was in a Super Spit. I had a Typhie outturn my 109G6 (it kept stalling out, and ate dirt). I had a hell of a time getting a Yak9U (flown by some stick named Trikky) and I was in a Super Spit, I got him finally and lost a wing colliding with his debris. I mean if you can't fly a Spit16, you have got to be a loser. I lost a fight to a PonyD in a 109G14 (compression/auger). The only thing I got kills in tonight and landed more than 2 kills that I remeber was a Dora.
Pretty pathetic when you have to fly a Dora to get kills.
I think maybe a more dweebish game like WOW may suit my talents.
C U after Christmas.
Not that anyone cares.
-
You just need to find the best plane for you (besides spits, which are the best for everyone)
And well, the D-9 isn't that dweebish is it?
Have a nice Christmas Ak
-
If it means anything to ya, Trikky is pretty good in that YAK. Handles his E well and ALWAYS keeps the advantage.
-
Oh yeah, and stop vulchin so much. It's no fun.
-
Oh, and the Ki was always a better plane than the spit. The yak is no slouch either. Trikky's a dweeb; don't listen to scrap. Scrap's a dweeb too.
-
Bye! :cry
You better come back grrrrrr.
After you fly forawhile u lose skill not gain it:)
Take a few months/weeks off come back and up a spit with me in da =)

STFU scrot-warmer :p
-
Wow, you have a positive K/D?
-
Trikky's ok for a dweeb... the Yak is definitely a great plane. It flies great (waaaay better than a 109), but the guns suck. Generally the hardest plane for me to hit with taters next to a decent stick in a zeke (how rare is that? lol).
If you got pounded by an 84 while you were in a 16, that's not too big of a deal... the Frank can hang with a sissyfire pretty well. If the Ki has a significantly better pilot, it'll win 9/10.
-
I've taken a break this month, and it has been nice. I recommend it. When you come back you’ll be refreshed and stuff wont seem as crappy.
-
what's wrong with K/D 1.5? What does it mean?
Mine is no better and I've been playing for a few years. If you get killed because you try to fight and not to run it's actually pretty good. LW planes are hard to fly vs the new spits and La's. The challange of shooting someone down with an "inferior plane" gives greater satisfaction.
If all you want is a K/D:
- take an LA7.
- never pull more than 3G.
- Always fly with the hordes.
- Engage only enemy already fighting one of your country.
- Engage burning / damaged planes, just be sure to land more cannon hits than the guy before you did.
- Run away at the 1st sign of disadvantage, yelling your hord to clear you.
- Wait for others to clear the acks and beat them to the vulch. If the vulch is good, reduce throttle and RPM to extend your quality vulching time.
- Dont exit after landing. Refuel till you have enough kills to get a "wtfg" on channel 2.
- post your kills statistics on the BBS for all to be awed.
Just take it easy and enjoy.

Damn... all that would eventually take more time than actually learning how to fly a fighter.

Trikky in a Yak9u is no easy kill FF.
Yaks can be a handfull for anyone with even a moderate pilot.
And trikky KNOWS that yak. Frankly I'm surprised you got him.
Yes take a break, YES walk away from the LW.
YES come to the light!
Heck climb into the yak for a tour, you could do worse.
Flying LW long enough makes anyone strange.
Fly the La5fn for a tour, granted its not as fast as the 7, but people don't whine. :) (they can't, you could have been in a la7)
2 nose mounted cannons, 400 rounds, fast, nimble, whats not to like?
-
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I took most of November and the 1st half of December off, and I've been so pissed and frustrated since coming back that I pitched a duster two nights in a row after getting shot down and haven't been back on in over two days. Of course, I never have been all that good, and I've never kept much better than a 1.8: K/D ratio for any length of time either, so I don't have much to lose.
-
SaVaGe is this the only way you have found to say you need a frenchman to cover yer a** ?
:p
-
The more you play the more little things start to annoy you. That's always the sign to take a break. You'll know how long, because you'll get 'the bug' again, you'll start thinking about flying and miss it. You'll come back re-invigorated, flying will be fun again and you won't be so easily annoyed.
If it's not fresh and fun don't do it.

No offense FokerFoder, but I think this sentence right here is why you are no longer enjoying the game....
Personally, I started to become really hung up on wanting to land every single mission, or constantly work on my K/D average, getting almost angry if I didn't land 2 kills, and flying a lot more timid than I did at the beginning when I just had fun.
Then very recently, partially thanks to a squadmate of mine (Thanks Aub!) I was online and a base was under attack. And something "clicked". I decided no more mr competitive... I just wanted to have fun and play the spoiler. So I upped, and upped, and upped some more. I must have died a half dozen ways in 5 minutes, in all silly sorts of manners, like ramming the radio tower on climb out trying to dodge the bullets of a vulture. Eventually the CAP over the field weakened enough and I was able to fully up, and just laughed my butt off as I had like 6 planes chasing my A6M5, and watching as a couple would auger and crash as I'm dodging, dipping, ducking, diving, and dodging. The game became as fun to me as it was at the beginning.
That's not to say I'm not interested in landing a mission. I just stopped caring about the stats, and make myself personal goals that have nothing to do with stat padding. If a base is under attack, my goal is to stop that C47 at any cost. If we're attacking a base, my goal is to do my CAP or JABO and return home safely.
The more you care about winning a "who's d@#k is bigger" contest, the less you care about having fun.
Just my 2 cents. =P

Take a breather...spend some quality holiday time with family and friends. When you return, grab a Typhoon. Fly it as you would a Jug. Grab air with DT's.
Take 2-3 pelts. Grab more air. Go home.

Foker, take a break. I played for 3 years straight, started getting fustrated with the low alt buffs, dropping bombs then augering, suicide typhoons diving on the base, enemys that wouldnt fight even when they had an alt advantage and I run out of gas trying to catchup with them. And if I rtb low on fuel, then they turn and fight or I get cherry picked. The game was starting to look to me no different than when I watched my son play MOH or Wolfenstein online. Hordes of guys running around shooting each other.
I took a year off from the game and now I got the AH bug again, I resubed last week, and even though nothing has changed I'm having fun. Sure people are still doing dweeby things but now I just dont care, I go to a different spot on the map and find a CV battle or buzz a base to see if anyone will up and fight. If not then I just logoff and read a book
As far as your video woes go, I have an Nvidia 5200 (128mg) with an AMD 2400 system and I get about 40-50 fps. I dont what MB your using but I've built about 6 - 7 pcs in the last 5 years and (for me anyway) I noticed that MBs that use a Nvidia chipset dont work well with ATI video cards
take a break, read a book, you'll be back ;)

that about summed it up for me a while back....
then i said F it changed my name and became a spit dweeb.
i augered when there wasn't a fight nearby
i flew NOE into bases of 20 enemies taking off, and engaged as many as i could.
i upped getting vultched 30 times in a row to make the guy run outta ammo, then chased him down in a lala and killed him.
and i found a new love for the game
if you dont have one, make up a shades for a few months and try it out. you may like it.

I agree with this entire post.
There was a brief period, some years ago, when I paid attention to my stats. Didn't take long before I noticed that I was flying to improve my stats, rather than to have a good time. So I stopped engaging multiple enemies, stopped heading for targets that were higher than me, landed every kill I got (whether or not I had gas and bullets left), and quit trying new maneuvers just to see how they'd work. One evening I came to the unpleasant conclusion that I was now flying like the people I'd made fun of for years. So I stopped looking at my score sheets, went back to having a good time, and have thoroughly enjoyed the game ever since.

I agree here, if you are flying fighters just to look good on paper that can only sustain you so long. The desire to fly a certain way has to come from whatever it is you love about air combat. Is it balls to the wall twisty-turny stallfights? Is it flying like your favorite air combat heroes from WW2? Is it flying for the satisfaction of just pissing other people off? The list is endless.
But, however you fly, the desire to do so in a particular way has to resonate with what it was about WW2 Combat Aviation that got you interested in flying in the first place, if it's not you won't enjoy it. The most important thing is, once you've found that secret soemthing that "Does 'it' for you", don't allow others to coerce and bully you into doing things you don't enjoy.

How many AK's fly? I know if I did not have the BK's to fly with I would be outta here. They make the game fun for me. I can understand why, if you dont have anyone to fly with, you are feeling as anoyed with everything as you are.
Taking a break is a good thing. But if when you come back, you still have no one in your squad to fly with, it might be a good time to start looking for a different squad. As hard as it can be to leave a squad which had a good group of guys flying in it, if those guys dont fly anymore what else is left? Its not disrespectful to leave a squad because no one flys and go look for a squad that has players who fly often and are on often when you are.
In regards to what you fly. That is a load of crap, so dont think you need to prove that you are not a spitdweeb, or a LaLa dweeb or whatever. I fly a spit, Im called a no skill spit dweeb. I fly a pony and Im called a cherry picking pony dweeb... Even if Im on the deck turning with everything that comes at me. You cant win this battle. Its already been won in the minds of those who call you a dweeb. So fly whatever the heck fighter you want to fly and have fun.
And flying a 190 and turning in it... EVERYONE SUCKS. There isnt a 190 in the game or pilot that is going to turn a 190 into the MA wonder of the world. They are simply not good enough right now to stand a chance with the vast majority of the plane set, in anything but energy fighting. When I fly them I feel like I am punishing myself.

Yep that's the key.
No one is really dying, planes are free. Quit worrying about your score, dive in and have fun.
If you like 109s, then fly it the best you can. If you die, so be it. Who cares. You aren' t really dying.
I fly the 38G most of the time. It's not uber at anything but it turns ok. When I dive into the pile of Spits, LAs, N1Ks etc. I know it's going to be big target number 1.
But I'm not really dying and the longer I can last in the fight, the more fun it is.
-
Forget about scores, K/D etc.
Grab an IL2 when all the FHs are down, it can be a real blast.
-
I just got off a break myself, sometimes it's needed to bring back the fun of the game. I take breaks when it seems more like a job to play than acual entertainment.

You've got that right, preach on brother! What gets you called a dweeb even moreso is killing people and never letting them kill you. They hate it, it drives them totally insane, you can just see them ripping chunks of hair out as they curse you on 200.
Killing is fun. Killing and getting away with it is sheer ecstacy. :aok

AK, the col's k/d sucks alot worse, i am a dweeb of all dweebs, and i fly a niki at times too. The blue angels will never call any of us to fly with them, dont worry or care what people say, the igits always have a need to run their mouth, in a negative manner. The main thing is do what is fun to you, f, what they think. You;ll have more fun i think. I do try o keep my #'s somewhat respectable only for the squad though, and at times i couldnt care less, seems to be a good attitude in here. Be a dang dweeb and be proud if thats what gets you fun ,,,,who cares? i sure dont...:aok

Personally I fly just for the Remote Chance that I might get to Drop a Bomb on Morpheus's Osty or Cherry Pick Stang in a Seafire :D
-
That was one hell of a super horde you guys had rolling last night. If it wasnt for the fact you nuked our base and killed the ord, I would have started rolling buffs which always kills 2-3 vulchers.
I love swtiching to the side with lowest numbers and the side that is also getting gang banged from all angles then getting insulted by kakmaw for doing it. ROFL. I look forward to the times I switch to the knights and he is on. The hissy fits he throws are well worth being bang banged.

AKfoder ... I recall in another post (somewhere) that you had the "Stall Limiter" turned on ... did you ever turn it off ?
If not, then that might be somewhat of the cause of your angst and anguish and why other planes are outflying you.

Yak's are pretty tough to kill if flown by anyone decent. Fun plane to fly but you need to get into rectal probing range before shooting to make the hits count, though, since the ammo is so limited in the Yak.
Taking a break from AH once in a while is a good thing. Or just taking a break from A2A ... taking a 110G to do Urban Renewal for base captures is a nice diversion ... you may even want to try vultching in one.

Yup, that's the beauty of the Spit. My myopic 8 year old neice was over for Thanksgiving. She doesn't even know what WW2 is, and has never even seen a Joystick. She flew a SpitXVI, never got higher than 3k, turnfought on the deck and ended up landing 6 kills. She looked up at me, non-plused and said, "Uncle James that was too easy, do you have a harder game I can play?" :huh Embarassed, I loaded up Pokemon Checkers Deluxe and she was content for the rest of the day.

I can say from experience that flying for score takes away the joy from the game eventually. I remember 2 tours ago when I realized I was heading for the 'loop' again after returning from a lengthy pause. The start of the next tour I started upping from vulched fields untill my k/d lawndarted. I started flying freely and having fun again..
This game does not serve its purpose anymore if you have to stress about it. Sadly that also affects special events and squad nights - I'm not going to make a friggin schedule based on this game ever again.
Fly for fun - but for God's sake have a life.

I couldn't let that happen. I can't let you guys show her your propaganda films, training her for the 'l33t fight' by holding her by the ankles in the back-yard, twirling her around just above the ground in tight circles as fast as you can until she throws-up.
I can see it now, she'd grow up telling everyone else how to live their lives, shooting people in the face with a 9mm when they don't do what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. Then she'll be off to the Federal Prison for Women with a lesbian cell mate named Helga she affectionately refers to as......Cherry Licker! :p

AH (and games like it) is not about hand-eye coordination. It helps, for sure, but doing well requires SA. Buckets of it. So many games make the player the center of the universe and that doesn't prepare them at all for something like the AH MA where they're just seals waiting to be clubbed.
Nor do most "video games" require the kind of research, decision making, and practice that a game like AH does. Just think about how much knowledge and how many decisions an AH player uses and makes from take-off to landing for a typical flight.

You just described Situational and Tactical Awareness. That is being aware of every tactically relevant detail in your extended vicinity (SA) and making the correct split-second tactical decisions based on that information (TA). Perfectly illustrated and explained, AH is a very unique gaming experience being the only true MMPG of this genre worth paying for.

I've played AC sims for the past 5 years ranging from AW to WB and started playing AH2 about a year ago. I don't think I'm the best stick out there but I am descent, and its tough for me to get 6 kills in a spit and land em... Think I'm gonna have to call BS on that post about the 6 yr old girl landing 6 kills in a spit.
I have a 18 yr old brother that plays nuthing but PS2 and XBOX and I'll let him play AH2 and he can't even get the plane in the air... But you go back to the XBOX and I'll put $ on him vs anybody at any game they make... Heck just switching over from warbirds and airwarrior was tough enough for me LOL... And spits are by no means at all uber in any way... They can be exploited and beaten by any plane in the game, if flown correctly.

Then she'll be off to the Federal Prison for Women with a lesbian cell mate named Helga who she affectionately calls......Cherry Licker! :rofl

Doc ... so very true, but these guys adapt to any game with ease ... point being ... they have lots of experience in the genre of video games.
I think that you are only enforcing what I really was saying ...
A 6 year old will/would not have the where-with-all to aquire the SA needed to kill 6 planes on her first sortie.
If my kids, who have a hell of a lot more "video gaming" experience (abeit not Air Combat Sim), can't fly for more than 5 minutes without having the first con they run into pwn them ... then she sure as hell isn't too.

And something that a 6 year old WILL NOT pick up on her first sortie.
Oh ... I promise I won't spin her around too hard ... she must be conditioned tho ... it's for her own good.

Yeah ... I think we're in violent agreement as they say.
The classic joke from AW daze was the guy who showed up and proclaimed to one an all that he was "good at flight sims" ... and then proceeded to get carved up like a Thanksgiving Day turkey. And there were a lot of them.
Being good at standalone video games won't make you good at a game like AH. But being good at AH will make you quite capable in video games of the flight genre.

Actually she's 8, her name is Heather.

Hmm, well I wrote that to be a cute, if subtle, little metaphor. I felt being too direct would detract from the humor. ;)
