BTW, Flight deck officers say that "Auto-pilot" was on.

The crew at least can be very happy for their survival..
quite bad chain reaction, first propeller gets damaged, then debris takes off the nose cone which damages another propeller, plus junk wrapped around tail...

..if those politicians just could stop that stupid show.

Story I read in todays paper stated Navy plane was on auto pilot and flying straight and level when they were hit from below by the chinese plane. That was from the comments by plane pilot. Will be a while before the story gets printed properly without the inconsistencies from the journalist trying to get it out fastest.

Just a thought. If the fighter was directly below the E3 then a bank should have increased separation, not induced a collision.

From our crew's report, that is exactly what happened. The Chinese F-8 hit the P-3 on his third close pass.
