Title: Too many Books, to little time...
Post by: Bruno on December 22, 2005, 10:04:12 AM
Last week I recieved my copy of Focke-Wolf 190D-9 Camouflage and Markings and not having to time to give a read it I flipped through it and sat it on the 'pile'.

Being off today I figured I would give the pile a look through and get to work and reading. In the pile of books were/are (some of the better selections):

Bodenplatte, The Luftwaffe's Last Hope Manrho / Putz

Norbert Hannig's (Weal) Luftwaffe Fighter Ace

along with:

Reschke's JG 301/302 (I am mostly finished reading it)

Jagdwaffe (3): Defending The Reich 44-45 which I haven't even opened.

With the exception of the D-9 book most of these have just been sitting 'collecting dust' (not really I have good cleaning service) for months.

I'll finish up Reschke's book but I am looking forward to getting into the Bodenplatte book. I decided not to buy anyhting else until the 'pile' is weeded down to a stack.

Sounds a bit like my house :)

Mine are mostly RAF or USAAF related though.  It scares me to think of the books I've purchased in the last few months.  I always think I've hit the wall, and then I find another :)

I'd be curious as to your review of the Bodenplatte book as well as the 190 camo and markings book

Well the last book I 'finished' was Roger Freeman's 'Wolfpack Warriors' (56th FG) but yes the by far majority of my books are LW.

I need to pick up Shores' 2nd TAF book and I have been planning on it but after I got a look at the 'pile' I think I'll wait a bit.

Shores gave mention of the Bodenplatte book you have, said it was an excellent companion peice. I will get it as well when I have some more post- xmas funds.

The 2nd TAF books are 3 volumes, vol 3 is out Feb 2006. Its apparently an updated work from his original, which was written a few yrs ago now I guess.

For info.

I have been meaning to order the Jadgwaffe (3) as well myself. Looks like a good series.

Id like to hear your review as well on Bodenplatte.  I myself get WW2 magazine and WW2 History magazine which become very interesting to me and tie myself up in reading.

I have Vol 1 and had it for some time, Vol 2 (Breakout to Bodenplatte) is what I need/want...

I had a quick flip through of the Bodenplatte book and it looks interesting, I can scan the contents page is you like. However, it will be some time before I get to a proper review. That said all the reviews (both professional and amateur) of Bodenplatte, The Luftwaffe's Last Hope have been stellar. Over at TOCH (http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/) there's is a dedicated sub-forum (http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/forumdisplay.php?f=31) where the one of the authors (Manrho) is updating an Errata sheet for Bodenplatte (Issue 1).

There is also a sub-forum for Focke-Wulf Fw 190D Camouflage & Markings (http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/forumdisplay.php?f=32)

I did flip through it and the profiles are wonderful...
