Hi Guys,
Yesterday, my two year old son came in to my office while I was typing something for the O'Club and began trying to talk to me. I snapped at him and he started crying. After apologizing to him and telling him that daddy had sinned against him and asking for his forgiveness. I realized several things, amongst them that I spend too much time reading and responding around here, and that I don't much like who I am around my family when I am.
I know many that many people here simply view the O'Club as a series of verbal furballs, the objective of which is to score points and shoot down the opposition. I don't, I try to view them in the same way I would view conversations with anyone, and I get just as invested. It would be easier I guess, if I just didn't care that there are people on the other side of monitors reading this stuff, but I can't. I also don't thrive on a steady diet of controversy and argument, after a while I begin to get frustrated, preoccupied and worried I'm going to start venting or let pride have its way. My patience levels also tend to go down. I snap at home and in the workplace, neither of which is good.
Then the time element is a biggie, I spend probably 2 hours reading and responding here every day. Meanwhile I have two articles, I'm supposed to have finished, a ThD proposal I'm supposed to have written up, and a book I'm supposed to have started, that are all waaaaaaaaaay behind.
I feel bad because I know you guys were kind enough to foot my AH2 bill, and I can't thank you enough. So I almost feel like I have a responsibility to be invested here. Plus hey, I like the community here. But I also know I have to step back quite a bit.
So, just to say, I can't do the active participation in every thread that seems interesting thing anymore. If my name is invoked, I'll try to do the Genie thing and appear, or if someone has a direct question you can always ask, and the personal stuff I'll always be around for, but I have to get the other portions of this O'Club addiction under control.

I'm here to help....
Just log in once a day, type "MT is absolutely right" and log off.
Saves time and you will feel much better for doing it.
Merry Christmas

Jeepers, if you're not participating here, then how ever will I get a fair chance at converting you to my lighthearted, logically consistent, and correct brand of Atheism?
Aw shucks. :D
Best regards, don't be a stranger.

Seagoon, take a break and come by when you have spare time. The bbs is a timewaster, not an avocation irregardless of what rip, hang and sob say!

Merry Christmas Seagoon
Enjoy your leave of absence
BTW its ok to make your kids cry now and again.
Lets em know your human
-
It's also good to show them who's boss once in a while so they don't get any ideas.
-
Thanks guys. I appreciate it.
Please trust me there are no problems as far as a willingness to discipline the kids for genuine disobedience and bad behavior, but even a two year old should be able to wander in to Daddy's office on Daddy's day off to tell him about the exciting thing that happened on Winnie the Pooh without getting his head bitten off. That was wrong of me as well as being a complete misordering of priorities.

Seagoon, have a Merry Christmas.
And remember,yin-yang-If we did'nt cry every once in a while, we would'nt ever laugh.
I look forward to seeing more of your post's in the future.
You would'nt by any chance have a blog would you ?
I would love to read more on your views of Islam etc.
Thank you for your always enlightening posts. :)

The BBS is free. Get your bellybutton out of here and go fly. ;)

It's just the Intardnet, Seagoon, it isn't real. Go to a con sometime and meet these idiots. It's all smiles and goofiness IRL...then again, maybe it's all the booze. ;)

Merry Christmas Seagoon :)
I stepped back abit in October and it feels great.. I still pop in a few times a day, but I can easily ignore all the silly people and their posts. I get my kicks from a guy called Imajeep another place on the net.
I'll prolly slide back into this pit over xmas tho
-
I think I'll step away from the BBS too.
-
I'm back. Boy, that was a nice break.
-
Merry Christmas too from a damned heathen, Seagoon (for what it's worth ;) ).
While you and I are disagreeing about a lot of things in life, I have a sincere respect for you putting your life to the service of others.
May you and your family enjoy those days of celebrations. And may our heated discussions (I confess, mostly on my part!) help us to be better men at the end.

Seagoon, vist a range with yer favorite rifle for a few hours a week. Spend less time typing, more time poking holes.
does wonders for your clarity of mind, impoves mental disipline and knocks the obfuscating cobwebs outta yer head making it a lot easier to re order family priorities.
Have a very merry chistmas and the happiest of new years!
