I had a GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB. I bought a FX5200 128MB after the GF4 died. I had worse performance. I returned it that day.

So maybe a better question would be, what is the best bang for buck video card?

Mine works fine for AH.  Get about 25-30fps in a big furball, 20 or so in thick smoke.

But, I also have 2GB ram and a 3.2 P4.

If you're buying new, don't get a 5200.  They can't run just about any new games coming out now and will probably be completely obsolete in a few months.

I'm using one right now. Its a pretty low end card, but I'm getting playable FR with it

P4 2.6Ghz
768 mb ram (could use more)
FX5200 128mb

Use the 61.77 drivers
run in 128 bit
1024X768
all sliders to performance.

Not great but playable.

If you can afford a better card, I highly recommend you do so. But if its all you have, it will work.

cheers,
RTR

I disagree with the nay sayers,  I have been using a 5200 128mg video card for a year now, I get about 40fps,  AMD 2400  1gig of ram, no overclocking nothing fancy.

It should be fine. There are lots of different tweak guides for FS2K4 all over the internet, you should find one easily.

There is also a new GeForce 6800GS (I think that's it) that's quite a bit faster than the 6600GT but only costs a little bit more.

Check out the VGA Charts at http://www.tomshardware.com.  Those benchmarks don't tell the whole story since image quality is not compared, but you can get a general idea how fast each card is then do some more review reading to see what the whole story is without having to look at every single card.

Roscoroo,  you may be right (with your system) but I'm getting 40+ FPS at 1280 x960  512 textures.  and only spent about $100 last year for the 5200
Also I have not had much sucess running ATI cards on MB using Nvidia chipsets.   I have an Abit NF7 board with a 2400 amd and 1 gig of ram.  I'm happy with 40 fps right now. After christmas I might look at the 6600 or 6800, last I looked the prices were down to about $149
