Title: I Got the new Springfield Armory M1A today.
Post by: GtoRA2 on December 24, 2005, 09:02:00 PM
I Got the new Springfield Armory M1A today.

Went down to the store and picked it up with a spare Ten round magazine(can’t buy 20 rounders in Cali, and they only had one 10 rounder in stock).

Here are a few picks.

The dog is curious.

Still sniffing away, prolly thinks it’s a big chew toy!

Even the dog knows to check the action for a round.

You may be able to see a few dings in the stock, but that’s ok I think I want to put on a laminated stock on it. Plus it will get dinged up anyway shooting it.

I am going to take it to the range Tuesday. Probably Chabot gun club in the Hayward Hills.

I bought some South African locally, 240 rounds; stuff looks nice, clean and new.

I ordered some “new” .308 from Ammo man and was not sure when it would get here, and it is ok, some rounds do not look new. Might be older brass since the Bullets look fine and only the brass is not new looking.

Busy week for me since Weds I am going to be hitting Hollister Hills in the Jeep a friend and a bunch of guys from the Northern California Xterra club.

Merry Christmas guys!

Interesting photos.
You hang your T-shirts on coathangars, suggesting you are a very fastidious and neat person, yet you let your dog sleep on the bed :) Thats cool.

What is the AR-15 type weapon to the right in the bottom pic, and why does it have a red ring on the flash suppressor? Replica/toy?  seems awfull short if it's butt is at the same level as the M1a.

What is the duct taped hose going into the wall? PC cooling system?Beer tube from fridge to desk?
Nutrient feed/ventilation for the 'indoor garden'?

LOL, sorry man, I cant help it, I see a pic someone posts of their house, car, PC, room, dog etc and check out the little things to see how the little things in the background of your life compare to the same things in mine.

Nice rifle, very nice.
Cool lookin mutt too, betya its a sook :)

Merry Christmas btw.

GTO, nice weapon, I hope you enjoy shooting it.

The ammo you got, it might not look pretty if it is milsurp, they do not bother tumbling it to look nice after making it, so dont let that bother you.  Even if it looks a little "heat treated" around the end of the case, that is normal.

The South African should be fine ammo.  What is the headstamp on the other stuff?

LoL I hang the shirts cause I have not room anywhere else. The dog does not know she is a dog so she would not understand sleeping on the floor! :)

This is a better shot of the AR-15 thing.

Its a Tokyo Mauri M4 Soft air gun. Looks just like the real thing but as soon as you pick it up you know its fake. It is not light but flexes to much because its mostly plastic.

It shoots little 6MM BBs, its fun inside of 25 yards, but not very accurate.

The hose thing, is the hot air tube for a free standing AC unit. I just have not got around to putting it in storage.

I new someone was going to comment on the background stuff.

Most prolly won't be nice lol.

Dago,
I am sure going to love it.

I love shooting my M1, I put 300 rounds through it in a few hours once, recoil on it does not bother me at all.

The south african looks perfect, I think I will buy more.

The other stuff looks a bit rough but I am sure it is fine, it looks better then the greek crap I have shot in the Garand before.

headstamp LC 02  and a very small circle with " in the circle. The cicle is like picture fram nail head size.

LC is probably Lake City,  USA made and good stuff.  There is another LC headstamp, it is ammo made in Hungary, but slim chance that is what you have.

I hope you drew a map.

It can save some digging if you forget exactly where you've put em.

Barrell seems about 2 inches short on the 14. It is suppose to look like a M14 right?

It's about 4" shorter, it is a semi-auto version of the M14 but in the "Scout Squad"  model.  This is a shortened version with a forward mounted optical base for stuff like an Aimpoint.   Considered quicker for target aquisition.

Nice set of CH pedals.

Oh, and the rifle is pretty cool too.

Don't like the CH pedals all that much.  I liked my old TM ones much better, these are two narrow. :D

But I am sure I will get used to them.

Getting the operating rod out of one of these rifles was a little hard lol.

It is all lubed and ready for the range in the morning.

What grease did you use?

I have been using Superlube, might switch but to be honest, this rifle will work with anything up to and including axle grease.

Just dont oil it, and dont overgrease it.   :)

I used to use axle grease on the M1 Garand, then I got some Tetra grease.

I use it on everthing now lol.

I learned my oil lesson from getting it sprayed in my face when I got the M1 Garand.

Beautiful rifle, congrats:aok

Ive been wanting a the Scout for awhile, but its hard to dedicate my toy money for another M1A when I already have a full size. I also bought a 240 round battle pack of that South African ammo and had no issues with it.

As far as the 20 round mags go, can you not own them in Cali either? Im guessing no, but i can pick you up some milspec 20 rounders locally if you would like. Just drop an email:aok

You can own them but only if you had them before the  ban.

I don't know of a way to check how old the mags are.

Well goat boy... take a day off during the week and bring that bad boy to my house and I will shoot up all your ammo for you.   At least I will be used to the sights.

Henh.

I'm jealous. That's a nice weapon, GTO.. shoot the hell outta it. No such thing as a 'gentle' break-in on a battle rifle... give it to Laz for a coupla hours. You'll prolly get it back warm, but workin 100% and battle-zero'd.

Intresting story about the grease in a Garand. Chosin Resevior, Korea. M1's were jamming in the sub-zero conditions.. the Marines picked up commie bolt-action m44's and 1891/30's and used 'em to great advantage. From that point on, Marines slept with their garands in their bags and were damn particular about keeping 'em 'donut warm' at all times. ;)

Hang, where's that from?

One of the best teachers I ever had was an Eng.Comp/world lit. high school teacher, among the maxims he first taught us was 'Understand, Improvise, Conquer'.

Marines Credo. A guy I shoot & fly with pops up with all kindsa 'interesting' snippets on occasion. I get a kick outta it, being from a Navy family (but I served in the Army) and him & his family being all Marine, we have some pretty hilarious insults flying back and forth constantly. ;)

The funniest one I've heard in a long time was about 5 years ago.  I was talking to the RADAR chief and said something sarcastic about my self to the effect of "I am a superb RADAR guru" and his response was:

"Yea, and my prettythang sucks buttermilk"

I fell out of my chair laughing.

Been thinking about trying the Tetra, have heard good things about it.

Superlube working okay so far, but when its out might try Tetra.
