Title: Help choosing graphics card
Post by: Lan784 on December 25, 2005, 04:48:13 PM
ok I need a opinion on these cards. The best card i see is the ATI RADEON X800 PRO 256mb DDR APG. But i dont have $350. All i have is about $150.
These are the ones i can afford:
PNY Verto GeForce FX 5500 128MB DDR PCI Graphics Card

ATI RADEON 9550 256MB DDR AGP Graphics Card

ATI RADEON 9250 256MB DDR PCI Graphics Card

ATI RADEON X700 PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card

Which is the one is the best outta of those 4?

Well, not all of them may be compatable with your system.  Does your PC have a PCI or AGP slot?

The GeForce 6600gt is down around $150 now online ... seems like a pretty good card.

ok my mother board is  PCI. So the X700 is the best.
The current graphics card i have isPCI  ATI Radeon 256 MB X300 SE Express Graphics Card
Im looking at the ATI Radeon X700 PRO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express.

I would like to stick with the same brand of cards(Radeon)that were origanlly with my CPU when i bought it so i wont VOID the warrenty on the computer.

In PCI-xpress, you could even get X800 card for $150..

I think x800 is around 30% faster then x700.

$137 X800 but with 128mb of regular DDR memory ($107 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127176

or this

$165 X800 with 256MB GDDR3 memory ($145 after rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161138

check out http://www.newegg.com for more videocards, they have pretty good selection and price.

Get what you want, regardless of the brand.  You Voided the warranty the minute you split the case and broke the tape saying "Splitting this case and breaking the tape voids the warranty"

Having said that, I saw an earlier post saying you were off to better things via WW2online?  What works best here may not be best there.  First thing you should do is figure out what you will spend your prime time in.

I have  found, however, that the past few ATI cards I've ran have been the better for me.  Running 9700 pro Radeon at the moment, with 1.2ghz ram and AMD CPU.

Can't argue with the 70 frame rate in a furball.  Not sure how it will stackup in WW2online though, having spent just enough time in that game to not care how it ran there.

Was promised the game in 3 weeks MAX. took a total of 8 1/2 weeks to get a game. Never ordering from GMX media again:lol

I had this Card running the current version of HA2..it did very well . I now have the 6800GT you can tell the difference. But the 6600GT did well enough. Its a great card at that price.

I have the X700 card PCIE 256MB ram.

I can't get it to run in AH without using 4.12 Drivers (Skuzzy's advice).  The latest drivers are 5.13, and I haven't tried those. With 5.12 drivers, AH2 wouldn't even get past the boot up frame.  I can't run the 1280 X anything without CTD.  1024 and 1600 mode do not give me CTD's,  But they give me stuttering if I run the textures past 128 in the 1600 mode.

I have 1.5GB or RAM and a 3200+ Athlon, and have done extensive hardware testing, with no problems found.

I get these %*$ rubber bullets.  I have film of me taking passes at a lanc in a LGay7.  Three passes, point blank, hit sprites hit sprites, hit sprites.  Finally on the third pass he starts on fire.  Over 180 rounds, under 200 yards, solid hit sprites, I get a fire on the 3rd pass??

I ping the hell out of bogeys and then someone else shoots them down, and I don't even get an assists.  This happens several times a night. I have hit fighter planes in the wings with the 30mm guns in the 190A8 and not even taken off an elevator.

I emptied the guns of a 163 into a 234 and after about 10 to 15 hit sprites he started to smoke and then went on fire.  120 rounds of 30mm at close range, and he only starts to smoke, 30mms???

Stay away from ATI cards.

I'm not coming back to AH2 until I get a NIVIDIA card.  Until then I think I will try WOW.

im using a ATI card now and i have no problems with it. Also i dont plan using it with AH if u dont know im switching to WWII online as soon as my new harddrive comes in. Which would prbably be tomorrow or the day after.
Sorry guys it has been fun but i like wwiiol better. after 2 1/2 years in a plane i feel like infantry and good tank battles.

From the tests and reviews I've read, the fastest card for $200 or less is the Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS.  I've got one on order and will see how it does.  I've ordered it through Newegg.com.  Newegg is fine, but the manufacturer of the card (eVGA) has packaged it so that the card often gets damaged in shipment -- a heavy card, in only bubble wrap, with tall capacitors at the end of the card.  I've got two cards so far with capacitors broken off the board.  We'll see if I ever manage to get one that isn't damaged.
