Title: Looking for new music
Post by: x0847Marine on December 26, 2005, 02:12:31 PM
Suggestions?.. ska-punk, metal-rap, good angry punk stuff al la Slipknot, Pantera or old school Rollins.

I found two great and halarious songs in my quest for "different"

Johnny Socko -"B*tch stole my hat"
Schooly D - "Saturday night" (The funniest rap song I've ever heard, warning it's got all the words you dont want to hear on range)

ed: apparently its one of Eminems early works as a DJ, it's an old song.

I personally enjoy Jello Biafra and The Melvins together.  The Pixies are good, as are The Melvins by themselves.  A lot of stuff Jello Biafra does with other artists is full of sarcasm and satire but they all have meanings.  You don't even have to care for what he stands for to enjoy his music sometimes.  Dead Kennedys are good as well, and The Weakerthans are alright.  You might like Killswitch Engage if you like Slipknot, however, Killswitch engage are a little more mellow.

That's all I can think of right now, enjoy.

Good old metal fun-type stuff I like is old Anthrax (from persistance of time and before). They always had that party type music, throwin in a little rap type stuff too.. like 'I'm the Man' or "bring the Noise' (which featured Public Enemy)

lol Slipknot nor Pantara are "angry punk bands".  Do yourself a favor and stop listening to KROQ.

xMarine, I have the perfect service for you.  Go to http://www.pandora.com and enter any one of the bands you mentioned or their songs.  The service will find that song and songs similar to it until finally you have music that you like.  All you do is click on Guide while a song is playing and tell them whether you like or not.  After awhile the service hones in on exactly what you want to hear.  What's great about it is it is web-based so no programs to download and the kicker: It's free!.

Pretty much anything from the Reverend is a classic.  Another good band in the same style is The Buddy Blue Band (ex-member of the Beat Farmers) or the Beat Farmers (R.I.P Country Dick).  Oh and the Cadillac Tramps.
