Title: Anti Aliasing
Post by: FOGOLD on December 27, 2005, 04:05:05 AM
Anti Aliasing certainly makes a huge difference to AH, getting rid of stair step especially on tailfin in rear view.

Problem is, so many games enable AA in the game and conflict if you enable it in the driver settings. It would be really useful if AA could be enabled in AH instead of having to go and remember to change the video settings in windows everytime you change games.

Any chance?

Oh. Merry Christmas!:D

The problem is not all video cards respond well to AH with AntiAliasing enabled.  Some computers will not run AH at all with it enabled.  Unless  you want to be the one who gets to receive the hate mail, I dont think you want them to make it on by default.

I think he's asking for the option inside AH, an option to enable/disable directly in the game video setup. Many recent games have this built into the game options (like Half-Life2, for example).

Why would they include an option to enable something that doesnt work with a large number of computers?  Enable it on your video card if you like, they arent responsible for what you do outside their software.  If they put a setting in, and it makes the computer unstable, you know how many people are going to raise bloody hell?  There are enough of them already, no need to go looking for problems IMO.

You misunderstand, SOA.

he's not advocating forcing FSAA on or anything like that. He simply wants to be able to control it inside the game, as many other modern games are doing. It's much better to have it on inside just the games you want, and this can be tricky depending on the card used and the setup for your system.

I think it would take a little bit of coad, but for the most part I don't see how it would make things worse.

HTC is busy right now with other things, but we might eventually see this in AH.

I'm not misunderstanding Krusty, I understood perfectly what you outlined, although I'm still not sure thats what the original poster was asking for.

What I'm saying is, why would they put a control ingame for a video card function that Skuzzy has been telling people for some time now is defaulted to be OFF in Aces High, and causes problems with alot of people's computers?  They dont WANT you turning on Anti Aliasing for Aces High.  Now if you decide to go into your video card settings and turn it on for yourself, and it works ok, and maybe you even see an improvement, then go for it.  For that individual, it worked out fine.  But considering that the current programming sets the default setting for AA to OFF, and its meant to be that way, why would they then insert a control to allow you to turn it on?  Thats just asking for trouble.  Many people play games with the default video card settings of "application controlled" and never even know where the settings are to change them.  Thats becasue the average computer user these days shouldnt be making changes, when they dont understand what they are changing.  Sorry, I did tech support myself for too long myself to be in favor of making it easier for people to play with things they dont understand and shouldnt mess with.

Personally, I have always used FSAA x 4 on AH with no problems.  Otherwise, the jaggies really show up when the image fills my 58" display. :D  It is not a problem being "Always On" because I don't play any other games that require me to turn it off.

I using 1280x1024x32 at 512 texture size, 6x AA and 8x AF with no problem.  FPS never fall below 60fps.  I agree that they should have this option available within the game.  Its a pain to have to change it for other games all the time.

Sorry folks. Threw that little comment in and havn't been back for a bit. I was only commenting that it is a pain to remember to change the AA setting in your graphics card when you change games. It would be nice to be able to enable it in game .

As for " we don't want dweebs messing with the game settings" there are plenty other settings that can screw the game other than AA :D

Not a biggie. Thanks for the comments.:aok
