So I busted my jeep today.
I still had fun though; it rained all last night so the whole place was a muddy mess. My brother-in-law met up with some cool guys from the Northern California Xterra club.
We met on the obstacle course and my Brother-in-law gave the mud pit a try and made it fine, so I gave it a try.

This is me going into the hole.
I did it three times, because it was fun this is the second.
Few more.

This is trail going up to the highest point in the park, easy in the summer, but not in the winter. We had to take another route up. The mud was very slick, and stuck to your shoes in big clumps.

We did make it to the top, we had to stop twice because one of the Xs was overheating.

I then decided to try the rock section in the obstacle course, this was mistake two.

Yes I am resting on my tie rod.

Getting a little help out.

One very not running jeep by the Holliday inn on the outskirts of San Jose!
I guess I upgrade the tie rod and Alternator!

The only way you know you have fun is if something breaks. The only not fun part is paying for the fix:( Looked like it was a blast.

Volvo C303 my friend used to own got bent tie rod in a jamboree in a Russia few years ago...

are you familiar with the Bay Area Arcane Automobile Association?

Chaq'un à son gout...

The first day I owned my Jeep (in 1982) I put a hole in the door big enough to put my hand through. My ride was so rough that no one was sure exactly where it happened.

They warned you not to look at her at that stoplight.

Exactamundo. Altho digging out the tools and twisting the wrenches is part of the zen.
-
It was a good time, It was a tad cold waiding in the water to hook the strap up. The muddy feet did not help with the interior.
I find out the damage today when I find out what the Alternator is going to cost me.
Smidsy
I have no idea what that is.
-
Depending on your engine, it shouldn't be more than $100.
-
I hope your right, 04 and 05 have a different alternator then the older ones. On hold with the parts department now.
I learned a lesson though. No really deep mud or water lol.
-
375 from the dealership!!
Yikes, that was an pricey lesson.
No one makes an upgraded one as of right now. :(
-
Ahh.. I remember those 300 dollars days with my Jeep. If you got the time you should see about just getting that one rebuilt. Is that the 4/banger or the H.O. I-6?

Yikes,
Does that include the tie rod? How did you break your alternator? From the water?

I think the mud and grit getting into the alternator killed it. It was covered in it.
The tie rod is seperate. I can get a stock one cheap, like 50 bucks, but I want a beefy one.

Crack it open, clean it out and claim it under warrenty repair ;)
-
Raped by the stealership eh?
-
That is so wrong on so many levels.
I mean you have a "trail" which is in such good condition many countries would actually label a road. Then you have some sort of mud bath you dip your vehicles in to make people think you really have been off road?
-
Yeah; move to New Zealand and all roads are like that trail :)
Real hardcore Offroaders have jamborees in Sibir; cars are flown with Antonovs from StPetersburg to "somewhere there" and the "convoy" has 3 huge trucks with them: one is fully equipped repairshop while two others are flatbeds for supplies and bringing back dead cars.

When we need advice on what velcro gloves you need to hold a sheep properly you will be the guy I ask. :D
The "trails" I didnt take many pictures on cause I was driving.
It's an off road park, it's local, and it is not snowed in like most of the rest of the trails in california.
-
Staga did you notice he had the top on and its not even snowing?

That sounds fun, they drop any cars out with Parachutes? lol

Is the alternator a dealer only model? Good lord man, run down to O'Reilley's or Auto Zone.

If it's a 2005 it might be. But then again I'm pretty sure it's the same one from the 97 and up.

Somebody told me that in line 6, 4.0 litre was designed for US army,is that true?

This site is all you need. http://www.quadratec.com
As for the Tie Rod, if your serious, this is the only one you'll be satisfied with:
Currie Heavy Duty Tie Rod System CE-9701 $399.95 The bars are 1.25" in Dia. The Tie rod ends are 7/8".
I am also a member of an Off-Road club here in Michigan. One of the guys has 1-ton steering on his 00' TJ.
Just my .02

Never heard of this one before, I would discount it.

They changed the bolt patern in 04, so 04 and 05 have an oddball alternator and no one as far as I can tell has come out with a higher amp model.
-
It appears that your Rubicon is stock. I wouldn't start driving over rocks unless you AT LEAST throw a 3"-3.5" lift on it, with 33's. Just another .02.
I'm assuming you were climbing the rock and slipped off? The MT-R's are very hard in tread, unlike BFG's and Baja Claws.

I got the stock carpet in my 93 Jeep Wrangler. I got stuck over a month ago in the mud. I'm still picking out chucks of mud from the carpet and the steering wheel/shifter still has mud stuck in all the little divits. I finally got a shop vac for christmas and I'm gonna test it out today.
-
Well thats true Nate, and thats coming, but its down the list a bit past a better cage and new springs.
-
GTO, next time you go, take the M1A with you.
You'll know what to do....

had an 81 Jeep..... Loved it! no carpet!, no problem! just sprayed out the bottom with a water hose.. had drip holes and everything!
saw a jeep the other day with the licence plate:
H2 RESQ

You guys are kidding about the interiors right LOL, I have a 94 wrangler with a 4 banger in it, but a 3.5" lift and 33's on it. Not sure about yall's jeeps but mine has drain holes in the bottom so when I go offroading I just open the drain holes and wash the whole thing... its a jeep guys, not a mercedes lol just open the drain holes and spray away with a high pressure rinser :)

Shame on you, go sit with ripsnort in his designer garage.

It lives, the alternator swap was the easiest I have ever done lol. 2 wires 2 bolts, and the tensioner had a spot to attach a breaker bar.
The Xterra is still down. But only cause it is pouring and the owner is sick.
-
mud sucks!:D
the link in my sig shows some cool pics in colorado and Moab!

Hollister Hills looks pretty stupid.
