I was diggin through my box of old junk and stumbled across some battle weary joysticks i retired. And i had a digital camera handy so woohoo. Here they are. (Don't laugh to hard at my the riggin on one of my joysticks lol)
Thats my first joystick, a madcat no rudder input (made it extremely hard on me lol)
So i got more serious and got a wingman digital extreme 3d pro. It acted like a POS.. I thought it was a fluke so i got another.
Well i soon discovered yes wingman digital extreme 3d pros are indeed POS so i gave up. I had withdrawls so i did some fancy rigging. What you see above is i discovered a piece of plastic busted out on hte botton makin it completely limp so i stuffed it in as best i could. Super glued it. THen put a piece of cardboard coubled up from an old budweiser case and super glued it on tight. THen i taped it with masking tape to insure it didnt pop off. It worked great.
Then i got another joystick from microsoft called a microsoft precision pro 2. IT held up great so i went to get another one but they discontinued makin them so i was completely pissed and decided to buy a CH rig.
I've had this rig for 18 months no problem.. Ch pro pedals and a ch combat stick. (Cigarettes and Coffee mug warmer not included.)
Lets see your Rigs.
-
Holly slow loading images batman.
When they finish downloading from the 56th site in the next hour I can tell you what I think of your rig. That sounded kinda kinky almost. :huh

If my camera were working I'd take a pic of mine, meager as it is.
I miss the hand-grip and button placement of the Wingman. I, too, had one. It had a good, heavy, base, and the feel was decent. Too bad it was a POS. I'm using a second-hand MS Sidewinder (analog) now, will keep it til it breaks (few years at best guess).
I can't afford any of that CH stuff :)
One day I want rudder pedals. I'd fly with a crappy MS Sidewinder forever if I had pedals.
-
I use the throttle that came with it built onto base of joystick. Do i need an expensive controll built specifically for throttle? lol (maybe if i used twin engined fighters)
-
yeah my first stick was a wingman extreme.... loved the feel and layout, but rudder would spike after about 6 months of use. so RTB to best buy and exchange. :aok
-
i find the greatest thing about the throttle system is you can map all your keyboard functions into one place so it reduces the control load that is required to jump all over the keyboard.
-
ok..
so where is the pic of the person behind the computer?
-
YUCCA, are you sure that stick with the red buttons is a Joystick? What's with the mushroom head on it? :aok
-
i've seen stranger

I was going to upload a picture of mine but my image host isn't working and picture hanger won't work either.
-
I finally got a couple navajo from an ex. A lil old though.
-
Heres what that fucca yucca looks like. Means you gotta post too navajo. lol

-
I was a little wasted... lol
-
I had a 2-button Gravis as my first pc-stick (after 3 years of C64 and almost 10 years of Amiga - although I still have an Amiga - or two). After that I quickly (in less than 2 years - even with separate pedals) went through two Logitech 3d Extreme Pro's, after which I switched to Saitek X-45, which I've had for over 2 years now... I gave that Gravis to my friend to try AH, IIRC it had a throttle in addition to the 2 buttons. :)

My chair's already seen it's best days.. I also have some beer left to drink on my crappy desktop, as well as my friend's girlfriend on the messenger... From the left top: my ADSL box, my WLAN-router (DLink 624+, can't really recommend since it seems to require a reboot every week), Hyundai L72D, which I've been really happy with (17"), Logitech mouse (receiver), Lexmark X1170 (which I don't have black ink for), couple of usb-cables, then my X-45, Logitech keyboard and Thrustmaster Ferrari 360 Modena Wheel (actually the pedals - which I use for rudders)..
-
I got the same rudders-joystick yucca...have u ever tryed to put a ch throttle in there?

Well if it's sturdy it will do the job. Hell you could sand off all that old paint and give it a new finish if you wanted.

I myself use a projector and a very home-built "open cockpit."
I have some rather old pictures, which include:
(small, overall image)
The flight controllers themselves.
I took these before packing for a Con, so they show a room in total dissaray.
Some notes:
The "pinky trackball" has been replaced with a serial-port glidepad. Much better.
The speakers and subwoofer (located under the seat itself) have been replaced with a set of Medusa 5.1 surround-sound headphones.
There's now a Track-IR 3 Pro sensor located on an aluminum mount just above the mini-keyboard.
The stick, throttle, and pedals have been the same units seince 1995, mostly. Various spare parts have been used to keep them in service, so it is hard to say what parts are original and what are spares any more.
The second keyboard, third mouse (the glidepad), and the stick/throttle/pedals are ALWAYS connected to my PC, located on my desk (unpictured) about 10 feet away from the cockpit, via various extension cables. To play, I don't even reboot. I just launch AH, turn on the projector (hooked up to a second VGA port on my video card), pour myself a scotch, and step into the cockpit.
Full array of photos at http://www.warrenernst.com/photos/cockpit/index.htm
Happy new year, all!

Have a Saitek X52 stick (no pedals), Microsoft Fingerprint Reader Keyboard w/ cordless mouse, Altec Lansing Headset w/ mic, Harman Kardon speakers w/ subwoofer and the box was built by Grimm (Squad mate) and I did the window on the box myself (had the wife hold it while I cut :O )
The laptop is one I use when I deploy, a Toshiba Satellite. Also have my 30mm, 25mm 50cal and 40mm grenade on the desk... scrap metal from work! :lol The gray box on the computer is my modem, stupid Italian connection!

Paste the link for your photo in there. That is the basic way to do it... I know a few (mostly all) of these other guys/gals in here might no an easier way, but that is how I do it... :aok

That's my $2500 Dell Paper weight I used for college before I got sick of losing work on it and got an alienware. Then that got destroyed while I was at college. So The dell is there for downloading and surfing the web. If it died for good it wont upset me. Alienware laptop will be back when they put a new screen on it and send it back to me. :)
Dont get a laptop unless you need one to go back and forth to work or whatever.

I have used CH toys since I useda fly Air Warrior on my Amiga 500 in the DOS arena.
That first joystick still works fine, I gave it to my brother and he gave it to his son.
My last 'gig' as a 3d artist, I was given a complete CH USB setup ..turned down the rudder pedals as I have a thrustmaster set that works fine ..atm the pedals are packed away somewhere tho, and have been for ..sheesh . 5 years or so ..it has been that long.
The stick an throttle tho .. umm ..more buttons, more hat switches, and more control axis' than AH supports, purty much if I need a button, axis, or hat, I got several to choose from.
I try to group them by function to make it easy when yer in way deep and reaction times are at a premium.
The throttle offers a measure of control that the lil wheels just do not provide. Think of a possible position fidelity measured 0-100 compared to one measured in 0-10,000 ..plus the slider offers a long slide from zero to max ...it is no problem at all to nail 41 inches of manifold pressure even on the smallest dial.
Even this set is 4 years old now.. I had to dig em outta the boxes and blow the dust off (literally ..they were out in the shed, in Arizona, for 3 years) ..and they work flawlessly.
The stick is the same way .. very easy to get a fine degree of control, very high fidelity for positioning (0-30,000 or some such)
The new Control Manager from CH has cured all the WinXP problems ..making a single mapped device out of the stick an throttle, so AH can use all the buttons, axis, and hats that it supports.

Eagler, that chair (the black one) was a new addition on Christmas Eve. My brother-in-law was moving back to Canada for a while (leaving Christmas Day)and he wanted me to use it while he was away. As soon as I sat in it I told him he should just sell it to me...he said "Ahhh...keep it". It's pretty sweet. Good eye.:aok

Mine is bungee corded to the right arm on my chair, with the throttle and 10-key pad bungee'd on the left. It lets me lean back, move around, pivot and watch TV, and still have the controls in my hands. It's also pretty comfy.

One of the better sticks in the game holds an Evo on his knee with one hand, chain smokes with the other hand and still manages to bang away at the keyboard somehow.

Originally, I had my joystick front and center on my desk. Then the keyboard was to the left of that, and then the throttle to the left of the keyboard. I required a very VERY wide desk.
Over time, I found the stick was slowly migrating to the right. Like, over the course of three years.
But for the past few years, the stick has been on the right and keyboard dead-center. I don't really know what prompted the shift...
-Llama
-
i used to play with my stick on a book but once i got a throttle system going and pedals i had to figure a new way to lay things out, so i hooked my stick and throttle to a board and lay it on the arms of my chair. If the fighting is real intense and the board starts jumping around i ductape it down.
-
I put my stick on my keyboard drawer and put my keyboard on the desk in front of my monitor. The stick is about 4 inches too high but I think I'd rather have it historically accurate and a little high than cheat like you guys LOL. When I build my simpit I will build a platform specifically to hardmount my stick to. When that happens all you suckas better look out!
-
I like this one best, it looks like it keeps the wife and kids away from the computer too!

I have an old wood desk; I keep the joystick on the right side. A writing board pulls out on the right side, and I use it as an armrest. An old mouse pad acts as an elbow cushion. There is also a writing board on the left side I can use if I ever get a throttle setup.
I got the antique desk and swivel office chair a local school surplus auction for $35.00 (I did have to re-finish the wood.)
As you can see, there is a state-of-the-art telecommunications system! I actually still have rotary phone service here. The1940’s phone was another auction find, I installed a modular plug and it works great.

Thats a 6 foot brightly colored fur snake :D . Keeps the cold currents out that creep through the window. My old bones.....
Furby: That cream is for my fingernails, i keep gnawing them off.....
That plant is a very young still avocado, i recently cut the top off to make it branch out - hence its rather ruffled look.

Right.
And i agree. Beautiful at any time of the year. Be it spring with all the new green leaves and colorful flowers, or summer or even more colorful leaves in autumn.... wintertimes with tips of snow, maybe a little fog to go with it...........
If it werent for all those tourists, i wouldve visited the place more often.

You take that flying pretty seriously. Pistol in holster just next of you:aok
-
That is a half full bottle, the best oil that you can use. I bought that stuff last year after i had some really long work outs i am getting older and have a hard time moving the next day. This is a part of the house were only me and her go. No one ever comes into this room. Their is a small futon and a tv for her. Most of my nights when i fly she is 5ft from me. The pistol was cleaned last night so it didnt get in the safe. My house is so clean but this room i can keep as dirty as i wish. Also thats the room with all of my firearms and safe all of my outdoor junk. I was looking at all of the pics and i quess i am the only one that has a cave for pc room.
