"State of the Art"????

Dont they learn anything in the Marines?   Looks like great IED bait.  Is this a vehicle that would have to stay hidden in the woods so nobody dies in it?

Sounds like the bigger problem is the Osprey wont lift squat.

I thought the M151 had stability problems in that it flipped when you tried to turn it? Hope they cured that. Really though it looks more like the original jeep. I'm sure it shouldn't cost 100k for a revamped jeep.

DEMOUNTABLE ARMOURED SYSTEM (DAS)
This variant allows the installation of armoured panels and glass screens onto a GS vehicle. A standard vehicle can be transformed into an armoured personnel vehicle within 48 hours. The DAS offers protection against high-velocity assault rifles, and can also be combined with anti-personnel mine protection. The Defender DAS is also available in a permanently armoured condition.

Yeah...but then we would have to suffer the Lucas electrics. :rofl

Besides...looks like the vehicle needs to be as small as Tatoo's jeep on Fantasy Island to fit on the Osprey.

Have any of you seen the Army's Hummer ? They  spent a pretty penny on that. They use it for PR.

I believe the Army has more than one Hummer, in fact, I think they have tens of thousands.  In its uparmored version it is doing pretty well in Iraq, a very tough environment.

Why are you laughing.  The Defender 90 is probably the best 4wd vehicle ever made, next to the 66-77 Ford Bronco.

Rover Cars, Ltd is owned by BMW (as well as Mini)

Land Rover is owned by Ford and have had the Bosch Engine Management System since 1996.

Lucas is no longer in the Land Rovers crow.  Land Rovers are sadly rarely taken where they were designed to go, Off-Road.

Dont you remember the movie "Independance Day"

"Where did they get the funding for this?"

"You dont really think they spend $75 for a hammer and $200 for a toilet seat do you?";)

151 had no rolling problems that I ever encountered.

That thing looks like an ATV would be better.
The Osprey  could assault land ATVs and Jet Skis! maybe a Ski doo in winter.

The jeep would be more effectively used when dropped on an enemy position from medium altitude, rather than trying to transport men. :rofl

The M151 a had mucho trouble staying on its wheels when driven on the road.
The 4 wheel independent suspention was great off road but on the road that thing killed many a Gi's
