Why do sci-fi explosions and smoke trails show turbulent flow?

In a vacuum wouldn't all the particulate and offgassing of an explosion show ballistic trajectory instead of turbulent flow?  Turbulent flow suggests a medium to be turbulent within.

it's just like the BB...that's how gases clumped together to form stars.

So it has to do with quantum jiggles?

I thought it was maybe because FX folks thought it either looked better or didn't know better.

Duh, the propellants and explosions leave behind a vortex of electrically charged particles.  That creates an electrical field, and all of the activity nearby makes those fields of particles flow and swirl in addition to radiating and reflecting light.  The noises you hear in the space battle?  Yup, those clouds of particles impacting on the hull.  Just because you see SOME of the particles in the form of a wake vortex or explosive plume doesn't mean you're seeing ALL of the particles, and when those particles hit ships, it makes the sounds you hear.

Duh.  *sheesh*

It's like playing skeptic whack-a-mole, and nobody commented on the appearance of the Pegasus?  What a bunch of unobservant luzers.

Merry new year human scum!

Or... Why do you hear sounds in space (in the tv-series, or movies)?

edit:
& Happy New Year!

LOL, I read that.. although, after I replied. :)
Stretches my view of physics too far, sorry... ;)

edited (again) for... Happy New Year, everyone!

Blonde was killed. Her re-incarnate got gangraped - asian nearly so.

Dunno if that one is in the cards.

I didn't like the "Pegasus" episode..  The last few episodes seem to be playing a "cylons are people too" and humans got what they deserved.  Never mind they killed "billions" of humans and have been trying to kill the rest of them.  Maybe they need to do this to justify or explain a motive as to why Dr. Baltar would help them.   President Roslin handles the situation in a little bit more believable way (considering the situation they have been facing),  make the cylon feel safe then blow them out of an airlock..

All we need now is a scene where Admiral Cain is in front of the press giving a statement..
"I've been asked if there is any such thing as a good cylon,  my answer to this is yes, one that has been dead for six months"  :aok
