1.Handley Page O/400

2.Sopwith Tabloid

3.Pfalz DIII?

Charwalla sounds stupid enough to be British or Australian, therefore i assume it has something to do with Tea or Beer ;)

Post by: SMIDSY on January 01, 2006, 08:40:58 AM
because you got all of them exactly right, i will give you the bonus answer because you are soooooo close.

the term Carwalla is an indian (outsourcing kind) term for a tea servant; one who brings you tea. so when you are in a pub or something in india and you want tea, call out "Charwalla!" and you will soon have a piping hot cup of earl grey.

PS
thank you for helping bunny in his quest for world domination.

QUIZ #2

Hi Smidsy,

>so when you are in a pub or something in india and you want tea, call out "Charwalla!" and you will soon have a piping hot cup of earl grey.

And what to call for a piping hot cup of Darjeeling? ;-)

Which type is responsible for the wingtip shadow next to the Pfalz? Could this be an Albators D.II?

(Very nice Pfalz, by the way - highly attractive paintjob, and I love the wood propeller :-)

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

furball, you got #1 correct. a slice of ham to you.

PS
i didnt make that model so i have no idea what the other plane is. i make smaller models and use them in a turn-based dogfighting game called "airodrome".

dead certain that #2 is a Vickers FB.

FB26?
Title: WWI Aircraft Quiz
Post by: SMIDSY on January 01, 2006, 11:41:09 AM
yes, the 26. better known as the vampire. it was an armored trench strafing aircraft. the difference between it and the 12 is that the 12 has a gap beween the "fuselage" and the upper wing, the 26 does not. there are other differences but that is the most noticable. quite beautiful if you ask me.

#3 in the second quiz looks suspiciously like the Spirit of St. Louis mocked up as a fighter.

The machine gun is a Madsen, chambered in Russian 7.62mm semi-rimmed, hence the large curvature to the magazine.

Here's another Madsen chambered in 8mm (7.92 mm).

i will put you out of your misery on #1

Type 13 MR1
Title: WWI Aircraft Quiz
Post by: SMIDSY on January 04, 2006, 01:45:05 PM
correct. it can be destinguished by it's shiney metal skin and wing arrangement. the all-metal design was in responce to the fact that wood does not stand up well to extremes of heat and cold and humidity. also, it could be dissasembled and re-assembled with greater ease than wooden aircraft, making it simpler to transport to the exotic locations it was designed to fight in.

now come one, furbie, take a stab at the others.

Title: WWI Aircraft Quiz
Post by: Furball on January 07, 2006, 10:39:18 AM
I am only really good with the RAF types: -

2. i do not know, i can tell you that it is a private venture aircraft going by the serial and not built to an official requirement. i think the X serials only went from 1 - 25 so if you find a list of those.. you could name X-19 ;)
3. is an Austin Greyhound
5. is a Caproni CA4
Title: WWI Aircraft Quiz
Post by: SMIDSY on January 07, 2006, 02:04:43 PM
2. is the Armstrong-Whitworth Armadillo.

3. is the Austin Greyhound indeed

you also answered 5 correctly

assuming that nobody else is gonna answer the rest they are as follows...

1. is the Phonix D.I

4. is the Parnell Panther of the Royal Naval Air Service (those arent DTs, they are floats.)

6. is the most obscure plane i could find, in fact i could only find about 3 pictures of it, and they were all models. it is the Microplano Veloz of the Mexican Air Force.

PS
Furball, you post some aircraft for me to identify.
