Please allow me to explain why I believe this thread was, and should be shut down. The Soviet Union combined a Totalitarian form of government with a Communist economic system. Nazi German combined a Totalitarian form of government with a Capitalist economic system based on military expansion. Neither country had sufficient safeguards in place to secure the individual liberties of their citizens.
The Western Democracies/Republics correctly viewed these countries as a threat to their individual and collective national security. A World War ended sixty-six years ago, which left sixty million dead. A cold war followed which, if it had turned hot, could have ended human civilization.
These wars were fought because of the hatred, and bigotry of their time. Their time, not mine. I was never raped by the Stalinist Soviet Union. I was never persecuted by Nazi Germany. I doubt you were either.
Russia has no intention of invading Latvia or Estonia. Boroda et al made that crystal clear. So the thread degenerated into whipping up the old hatreds and bigotries from sixty years ago. Skuzzy was right on when he shut it down. So please, lets bury this nonsense once and for all.
