Title: Is AGP dead?
Post by: tapakeg on January 02, 2006, 05:21:21 PM
Are Nvidia and ATI going to make any AGP cards past the 6800's or X850's?

Or are those the last of the AGP's?

I know the 7800's are all PCI-E

Are ATI's new gen cards AGP?  The X1300's-X1800's

I haven't seen anything faster than the 6800 or X800 series in AGP, and I don't expect that there will be.  Supporting 3 card formats has just got to kill their profit margin.  I suppose they'll keep building low-end PCI cards but since all the major builders have already swapped to pci-e, I suspect AGP is dead and gone.

There are no current generation high end agp cards being made , their will still be mid range and low end agp card for awhile , but if your looking to get the latest and greatest you will need to go pci-e . 38

Both companies have announced they will continue to manufacture AGP cards in current lines for the forseeable future.  All new (as in new lines) cards will be PCI express though.  AGP is to become the "budget" line of motherboards, for small and home office computers, entry level, etc.

"High end" and gaming rigs will be PCIe.
