California or Maryland Class BB
-
It reminds me of the Lexington Class Battle Cruiser but those BCs were converted in to CVs. Colorado Class maybe?
-
Baltimore class heavy CA?

Looks an awful lot like a composite photo of what the Lexington WOULD have looked like. There's Vought Kingfishers on the aft catapults, but the ship looks like nothing ever comissioned.

A refit Colorado class?(http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/n20000/n28341.jpg)

That is the USS Colorado BB-45, USS Maryland was also a Colorado class BB. She was being refit in Seattle when Pearl Harbor was hit so she was one of the first old interwar BB's to be modernized.
-
I'm thinking the same as Widewing. Not anything we put in the water and other then 1 Battleship Class built in the US for Argintina, we were the only ones who used cage masts.
And no, it not the Colorado. Her refit did not add 100 feet of hull in the middle of the ship.

When I first saw it I thought battle cruiser too..
maybe its the hood parked in front of a US BB?

Someone tweaked this photo of the USS Colorado. They took off the catapult from the rear turret, widened the stacks and stuck another barrell on the last turret.

I think the intention was to create a photograph of these ships, had they not been converted into aircraft carriers.... Lexington and Saratoga.

Different copy of that same image of Colorado. Shows the tail end better and the other parts that show the first image was modifed from this.
Gotta love those clipper bow BBs :)

LEXINGTON CLASS BATTLECRUISER (CC) it is!
Sharp Eyes there guys! Congrats! :aok
PICTURE EXPLINATION:
It is a VERY GOOD "What If" rendition of what a Lexington Class Battlecruiser would have looked like about circa 1942 - had they been built. As we know Lexington and Saratoga were converted to CV's and the rest (Constitution, Constellation, Ranger & United States) were canceled and scrapped.
It was done useing the pic of the Battleship USS Colorado posted by Guppy35. The plans for the Lexington's show that they would have had a similar layout of superstructure, main guns, cage masts, etc. of the Colorado Class BB's that were building at about the same time.
I really like that picture - As you can see, had the Lexington Class Battlecruisers been built they would really have been some beautiful warships. If you also study the pic put up by Widewing of HMS Hood they are very similarly built though by paper estimations the Lexington's would have been a better class of ship than Hood. While they couldn't hang long against a regular Battleship - IMO had they been built they most likely would have ended up being refitted with many extra AA guns and served as Carrier Escorts such as the Alaska Class CB's.
LEXINGTON CLASS CC 1-6 SPECS: (1919 revised design)
Main Battery: 8x 16"/50 (4x twin turrets)
Secondary Battery: 16x 6"/53
AA Battery: 4x 3"/50
Torpedoes: 8x 21" TT (4 above & 4 below waterline)
Aircraft: 3 floatplanes, 1 catapult
Length: 874' loa, 850' lwl
Beam: 105'
Displacement: 43,500 Tons (Designed)
Horsepower: 180,000
Speed: 35 Knots (Designed)(CV Lexington actually topped 40 Knots on trials)
Main Belt Armor: 7" - 5" inclined at 11.5 deg.
