Title: K-4 In The Works
Post by: Nr_RaVeN on January 04, 2006, 01:02:59 AM
Almost done I forgot to tone down the opps for the control surface shading  for the screens. That and a few minor details  should do it.

This is mostly a style and "personal taste" issue, but 109s wouldn't have so much paint chipping outside the wing walk areas, due to the quality of the paint used (in general better than the allies' paint) and because walking out on the wing wasn't allowed past the wing root (I think the wing walk area is about 2-3 feet, you've seen it before).

I like the streaking and wear and tear, but I don't like the amount of paint chipping. It's out of place.

Thanks Krusty as I'm sure you know, that plane was Piloted by the one and only Arnolderick Palmerstroke . He always flew with his golfing shoes on for luck, and was notorious for not obeying the wing walk rules.
but on a serious note:
I do agree with you about that. I was debating with myself about it but it was good practice thanks for the input:aok

"palmerstroke" -- won't go there :lol

I myself debated doing a K4 with those exact markings (had some decal sheet scans) but decided it just didn't interest me --- nor did any of the K4 schemes I ran across.

You want markings? The best advice I can give is to get a source and make them yourself. You use several layers to composite the markings as you need (it's a lot easier than you think) then flatten them.

Don't scan markings then copy/paste because it will look out of place. If you've got emblems or fancy artwork then perhaps a copy/paste is a better bet, but for generic markings I'd make them by hand (and I have been for some time).

rgrt that I make alot of mine as well.  Most of the time they are more than sufficiant but some times they do take a long time thats were I thought the scaner might help.

I agree with Krusty.  Make all the unit badges and nose art by hand--it looks much better.  About the only exception would be perhaps for Marge on Bong's plane, which was a photo taped on in real life, and it's hard to get that look by hand.

I make 3-5 layers for this stuff--you can look at it and tell how many you need by how many things are stacked on top of each other.  Say the unit shield for NJG1.  I put the outline border on the top layer, the diving hawk on the next layer down, then the red lightning bolt's layer, then the globe section's layer, and finally the background black, for 5 layers.  But I usually draw the main device 1st on whatever layer it needs to be on (such as the hawk here), then build the rest of the badge around it, including the border.

Hoops Hello Raven.:lol

For Markings get "IL-2 Mat Manager". is a great resurce.;)  It will create all kind of  markings, for all countries, weathered or not.  All you have to do is get them from your Il-2 folder.
