Title: Spits
Post by: Kev367th on January 04, 2006, 07:46:26 AM
Is it possible to give engine and tip configuration options in the hanger?

That way a Mk IX for e.g. could have LF, H, and HF versions with clipped, normal and extended tips without having to add extra models.
I.e. they'd all be available under the current IX.

Same would go for the V (LF and F) and VIII (LF and yup there were a few HF VIII's).

Yet the model choice in the hanger would only be what it is currently. (I, V ,VIII, IX, XIV, XVI). You would just choose whether you wanted an LF, F, or HF version.
Only concession would be if you wanted for example an HF Spit you had to take extended tips, not strictly historically always happened, but would make thing easier from a coading point of view.

Would also help prevent the "Oh no not another Spit" complaints.

Pyro said in that past that flight model changes like that were not possible.  Adding weigh is one thing, but changing the wing's performance and the engine's performance are another.

What's the difference? Either way you're tripling the number of Spit variants.

Karnak- Ah, I thought there may a current limitation why it couldn't be done.

Saxman - Not really, a Spit 9 is Spit 9 is Spit 9, just available with different motors.
Wouldn't even be triple, at most -

LF V, F V
LF VIII, HF VIII
LF IX, F IX, HF IX

If it were possible would not increase the number of models, merely the 'in hanger' options.
E.g. you'd still pick the Mk IX, just from within the hanger you'd have the extra choices.

Oh well, maybe a future development?

Could be applied to numerous aircraft.
