Title: Frame rates good, but starting to stutter
Post by: daddog on January 04, 2006, 11:19:24 PM
Frame rates are good, but about one week ago I noticed things were starting to stutter. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. I also updated the drivers still no good. I then installed another GeoForce 6600GT and still the same problem. Seems as if the frame rates are more like 10 or 12, but they say 60 or higher generally.

Ideas? Direct X reinstall? I don’t have this problem with other games.

System Info

MB ECS 755-A2
CPU AMD 3200
GeoForce 6600GT
1.5 gigs of RAM
XP w/SP2 all updated.
DirectX 9c
LiteOn DVD Burner SOHW-1693S

I don't think so. I will check the sound tonight when I get home.

I don't see anything in AH about sound acceleration? Where do you see that?
or
Is that an XP setting?

No AH, you can find it in DxDiag.

Windows, Start menu, 'run': type in "dxdiag".

Go to 'Sound' sheet and change the accel there to 3/4.

It was full, I tried it at 3/4 and made no difference.
I even updated to the latest 81.95 drivers to my vid card.  Don't know what has changed.

I think I will try to reinstall AH fresh.

If you've upped antialiasing settings (in the nVidea software), that could be your problem. I've had that happen.

my antialiasing settings are turned off... could this be the cause of my problems??  what exactly is that anyways....

off is better for computer power as it takes less power to run it. Turning it on smooths out the graphics there-by adding detail which is why it uses more power.

Which would be better for AH when it comes to antialiasing.. 2X, 2XQ, 4X, 6XS, or 8X... or is it better to keep it off....

what is Anisoptropic filtering?? thats another one in my NVIDIA settings...

101 I used antialiasing at 8x and the drawings were smooth as silk. Try it and see how it runs on your system. I was told not to bother with the anisotropic so that was always set at off or application controlled. Antialiasing really improves the eye candy IMHO. If your processor can do it then set it that way. :)

I am still having problems.

It was running smoothly with antialiasing on full at 8x and the anisotropic off. Clear sky frame rates of 70’s and furballs in the 30’s.  I downloaded and used the Driver Cleaner from majorgeeks.com and followed the direction carefully. After reinstalling the latest drivers I still have that heartbeat hesitating, but my frame rates still read 30’s to 70’s depending on the action. Happens offline or online. I have tried two different GeoForce 6600GT cards. Tried various drivers with each. Have reinstalled Aces High after uninstalling it first. Even tried changing some video settings. It was running fine at the max 1600x1200 and I lowered it to 1024x768 but that did not help. I have the Hardware Vertex Processing checked. Also the Optimize Objects and Terrain. I am at a loss.

Is this a processor problem? It does not happen in any other games, but I really don’t play any other games but Battlefield 2.

Technically, they're GeForce cards. ;)

My settings for my 6800 (different card, I know) are
Antialiasing 4x
Aniso... App. Controlled
Image High Quality
V. Sync On (Try making sure that this is on. It supposedly stops the rubber bullets issue too...I just have to on for the helluvit. :D)

Where do I find the V Sync? :)

I will look, but I am about out of ideas.

My guess the next step would be to:
1- Reformat
2 - ?

DD, what does the Variance in the "Net Status" chart look like?  It should be pretty smooth.  If there is a sawtooth pattern, it could be another program running in background stealing cycles from AH.

It is usually pretty good. Ping is 200 to 300 and the Net Status is usually many many small teeth. I will post a pic if I can later when I get home.

It does not end. I can be on for 5 mintues or an hour and it has this constant heart beat (not really even a stutter) speed up slow down beat.

That Variance is whacked out DD.  It should be on the '0' line, or very near to it and parallel to it.  Was that screenie taken just after you connected to the arena, while in the tower, or were there a lot of planes/vehicles nearby?

This better? After about 2 minutes with my 26k connect it calmed down. Now that I think about it the one below is normal.

The first screen shot was soon after I logged in and it was a busy base under attack.

Not too long ago ghosth.

Same is happening to me, since some days.
geforce 5900, DX9c, changed drivers, but nothing happens
Variance in delay is nearly flat, nothing new installed on PC, tried with one notch less of sound acceleration....nothing...
DD if you resolve your problem let me know how to do :)

If you are running newer drivers than the 61.77 drivers, you will have problems with that 5900.

I have the same problem.
Drivers are not the problem. I have Ati 9800XT, change drivers 3 times,
reinstall dxc, nothing.
Did anyone with this problem use router ?

You should be using the ATI Catalyst 4.12 drivers with that 9800 card.

Stegor after trying about 10 different drivers, using Driver Cleaner I gave up and just did a reformat. That did the trick. It runs smooth as silk, just as it was before I started having problems.

Now I have another issue, but I will post about that in another thread.

Well Daddog, ....I was afraid to think this was the solution...:(
My changing drivers has come  exactly to your results, (a little better with 61.77; tks for the info Skuzzy)
Preparing for a reformat....:(
I suspect the problem is related to some unknown programs running in background.....

Thanks you all:aok

Stegor, download EasyCleaner (from the maker's website if it's still free; think it's ToniArts.com?) and use the "Startup" feature to disable programs that you know don't need to be running. Has a registry cleaner too; very handy. Be careful with the other tools though; if you just hit "Delete All" on anything but the registry cleaner, you'll be sorry. ;)

Thanks Ooz, I've started disabling some programs, and things runs  better, even if not at all; seems most of the problem was caused by a startup program linked with Panda software antivirus, but I am not convinced at all.
Still trying to avoid a complete reformat:eek:
