Hi there,
I've been away from AH for two weeks, but for a very good reason, to experience weightlessness! :)
I'm part of a team who was chosen to fly in the last Parabolic Flight Campaign of the European Space Agency, I just returned home from Bordeaux, France, where the plane we used, the Airbus 300 "Zero-G", is parked.
I'll send some pics and avis if you are interested, but let me tell you, it's something totally incredible... can't compare it to anything I've experienced before.
It's a bizarre mixture of euphoria, invulnerability, not knowing where your feet are, and wanting to stay that way forever :)
Here's a link to some realmedia footage where I'm in (the guy doing some loops to the end of the video)
http://www.terra.es/ciencia/articulo/html/cie5259.htm (http://www.terra.es/ciencia/articulo/html/cie5259.htm)
Now I'm thinking on how to get on the program again... 36 parabolas are not enough, damn it! :)

I'm the third one from the left.

I'm so jealous it's sickening.
WTG dude :D

That girl to the right looks good :)
Very cool stuff cyrano!
-
Her name is Gloria, now studying her PhD in Physics (Gravitational waves), and we have been together for 5 and a half years now, thanks for asking ;) :D
I'll post some pics soon!

Maniac beat me to it, Cyrano.
Tu novia esta bien buena :)
Peliroja??

I dont think there is a single forum I read where he hasnt posted it....
I'm not jealous. REally I'm not...I'm simply tired of reading the same everywhere...yeah thats it. Nothing to do with being jeallous, just too repetitive.
I promise. Not jealous. Yah. Thats it.
mamonsuertudojodiooooo :D

Animal: No, no es pelirroja, tiene el pelo castaņo con reflejos caoba. Y si, opino exactamente lo mismo que tú :D
RAM: I posted it 3 times, one in TK, one in the private squad forum (101 ECV) and one here, that's not too much! :)
I'm just ecstatic about what I just experienced not to share it with everyone! :)
Oh, and BTW, you are studying physics, aren't you? Then get 3 more people and design an experiment with chances of being selected! What are you waiting for?
If you need help, just ask.
Now, 2 pics of Gloria, that's what you all wanted, after all :D

Huhm?...yo hablaba de tu novia no del experimento1!!!!!!!!!
:D

On a more serious note, let me share a couple of images from our experiment, called "Firefighters".
With this experiment, we tried to prove that the current products used in zero-g fire suppression are not 100% effective.
The results clearly indicated that.
Water or water with soap (currently used by the russians) was not effective at all. This picture shows a flame hit by 5 cl of water. The flame kept on burning.
Sometimes the water just splitted the flame in two, returning to its normal state after the water had passed through.
We'll keep on looking for a better way to extinguish fire in zero-g. We are currently researching several resines from ignifuge plants so that we can find a product that sticks to the fire source, thus suppressing it.

A typical zero-g monkey...

Well...you CAN do better than that can't you ? :D
... let's give SOB an incentive to post HIS pics... ;)

Hmmmmmm...
I know what kind of REISINS you could use in your "fire extinguisher" prototype..Im sure, that it would mix perfectly with the weightlesness.

If it's a joke it just went right over me :)
If not, thanks! I'll add it to the database of plants we are working on! :)

Nice bud :)

Can i do an reasearch project involving how zero-g effects boobs? :)
-
Man if I was in that plane doing zero-G's with Gloria I'd be lightin an entirely different kinda fire :P

Hey, last year a Belgian team was selected to conduct an experiment to test how to draft beer in zero-g conditions! Now THAT's an experiment :D
If that experiment flew, don't see why yours couldn't! :D :D :D
BTW, here's a divx of one of the parabolas:

Ah, yes, anything with "BEER", and trust me, we step in :D
