Title: The Weakest Link?
Post by: Dowding on April 17, 2001, 12:09:00 PM
Apparently we've started shipping undesirables back to the colonies.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Anyone see 'The Weakest Link' in the US? Please keep Anne Robinson (the host). We really don't want her back.

Show hasn't even started (or did it last night?) and she's on many of our nerves.  Still, in the hall of shame, it's no survivor.  By the way, what the heck is the story on "Castaway"?  Survivor with electricity?

I missed the premier on 2001.04.17.  If we keep Anne Robinson will the UK take Judge Judy off our hands?

I wish that we would have gotten Castaway in the States.  I would have much rather seen that than Survivor, Big Brother or The Mole.

You've had her for five minutes and she gets on your nerves. We've had her for years - have some pity.

According to the news I listened to this morning, the show went out on NBC last night.

Enjoy  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).

Revvin - I agree with everything she says about the Welsh.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Of the two Welsh people who I have got to know well, one I shared a house with at uni. - she was a complete cow - the other is my best mate. I guess every nation has it's fair share of fools - eh Wobble?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Just saw a part of it. Jeez, what is this host thing! He is obviously not a man, and she is definitely not a woman. What is this annoying turd?

Dowding, take "it" back.

OK, I saw the show for the first time last night.  Although her jabs at the contestants are entertaining, overall she is annoying as hell.  I vote we box her up and send her back.

I realise that the same person that created Millionare created The Weakest Link, but do all gameshows in the UK have the goofy over-the-top music and lighting.

The only TV I ever watch while in the UK is footie and 2 year-old Friends episodes (that are passed off as "new").

You know, we could start using her as a weapon of massannoyance. Threaten to send her to places if they refuse to do what we want, sort of thing.

And on another line ... Dddrrrrink! Dddrrrrink!

Only the ones we export to every TV equipped nation on Earth, Mickey. Millionaire is quite big in the US, is it not?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

The Weakest Link is run on the BBC in Britain, and started as a crappy late afternoon 'filler'. In Britain, the maximum you can win is 10,000 pounds (about $15,000). This is because the BBC is publically funded (no adverts at all), and it is deemed a waste of license payers money to spend it on game shows. For the record, Millionaire was offered to the BBC before ITV (a commercial station), but the BBC's mandate forbade the show being run. Also, the monetry reward must reflect the level of effort required to win it - hence the low prizes in Weakest Link and the refusal to take up Millionaire.

I hate game-shows. They are the lowest form of entertainment, except for maybe Friends. The Weakest Link was ok for a while because it was good to see people squeak at each other when they got slung off.

But now, I never watch it.

Keep Mrs. Robinson, or perhaps send her on an EP-3 as some kind of deterrant against attack.

Easy guys - don't kick him, he's got no sense of humour (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)Next thing you know Dowding will be going around saying Frasier is not funny (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Go Coronation Street! Go Brookside! It is/was playing on BBCA (usually comes with DSS or Digital Cable), and trust me, you didn't miss anything.  I'm still trying to figure out how it was more than The Real World done Brit style on an island.

Summary:  Gather a group of completely different people and make them interact with each other.  Add Chores.

Watch a couple of episodes of friends and you'll see all the inventiveness the writers are capable of. Sarcastic gag after sarcastic gag - all the characters a whiny pathetic types. Only Joey and Phoebe are any good, and Aniston and Cox are great eye candy. More comedy writers does not mean better comedy.

Frasier is actually quite good in comparison. But I think the Simpsons is the best American comedy show since Police Squad.

Besides, it's a well known fact - British comedy is best - how the hell do you think we survive on this rainy little island without it?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Although there have been some really, really poor British sitcoms over the years. The 70's and 80's are littered with them. Except for Faulty Towers and maybe The Goode Life.

SOB - are you talking about Castaway 2000 - a group of 30 people on the remote Scottish island of Taransay? I thought it was quite good and had much more longevity than Big Brother (which was crap after Nasty Nick was evicted).
