Because it's name has changed to something like Combat Tour. Release is planned for first half of 06. That makes it before June 30.
-
How do u know this?
Any info?
-
On the homepage in the News section..
http://www.hitechcreations.com/frindex.html
From a post in the "Combat Tour" of General Forums section of BBS, Pyro stated:
"It was changed to avoid potential trademark conflicts in the future. Given that ToD was announced and then backburnered for awhile, the name change is probably a good thing from that aspect as well."
-
The announcement is on the website.

Wow!!
Exciting news indeed!
For a game already in closed testing, man, HTC sure knows how to keep ND conditions intact.. Mebbe HT imprisoned all testers at the HTC building? :D

“One of our goals is to have players feel what it was like to be part of a thousand plane raid,” states Dale Addink, CEO of HiTech Creations. “Players will get an adrenaline rush jumping into one of these epic battles while trying to preserve their life and the lives of their wingmen. With career development in a historical setting, there’s an element of risk that along with the huge scale of the battles creates an intense experience that you won’t find in any other flight-sim.”
No typos...its not genuine!! :D

This name would be better

Hehe... In a press release from HTC? I would guess it's Pyro or Skuzzy who did the typing for that. Or then not, I've been wrong before... :D

In a nutshell...
No chance of TOD until at least late next year which will result in another year plus of stagnation in the badly neglected MA. At least you won't have to upgrade your computer to play in the MA for another couple years.

Combat Tour is currently in closed testing and release is planned for the first half of 2006.
from the press release... You think the first half of 2006 will take almost 2 years?
-
when was this supposed to first come out? We should start a pool... 5 bucks for each bet, closest one wins..
-
Oh, right. 3 years ago? I could do a search here quickly and find the first "ToD thread"... But wasn't the release of ToD (now CT) postponed because the graphics engine required an update (aka AH2 :))? But still, if they say it's in the 1h/06, I do believe them (I've always been optimistic - and no reason not to be). :)

HTC never even for once mentioned when it would come out.
The ToD idea was conceived during the last days of AH1, HT said they started working on it and people just automatically assumed ToD would be a part of AH2.

It was supposed to be released the same time AH2 was. Check this article http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_059a.html
Its years behind schedule.

Years.....And months too.But Im also optimistic cause I know its gonna kick bellybutton when it DOES come out.I trust these fargin Iceholes for some reason.

My biggest concern is that the small dev team will become swamped in the tons O coad and the whole release process will grind to a virtual halt. Its the MA that is the lifeblood of HTC. The more it stagnates the worse off it will be for HTC. By taking on a hugely ambitious project they are setting their main business aside for ever increasing times. HTC would make far more money leveraging the product set they have now with improvements in the MA and by encouraging special events.

And what would you do to the MA to make it not 'stagnate' to use your word?
Toolshed, carpet bomb, horde and base capture with the occasional furball thrown in, seems to be the order of the day in the MA for as long as I can recall.
We have more planes then folks know what to do with since most only fly the late war birds anyway.
So what's the answer in your opinion?

The AH main is the same as it ever was and won't get any better. There's just as many folks in the main as there ever was. Certainly no new plane will make it better. As Guppy said its a 'capture the flag with late war planes arena'. Nothing will 'improve' upon that. Who said the main has been 'set aside'. Maybe the main is just what they want it to be...

There have been a number of good threads about improving strategical game play. Also, taking the damage model further as well as new map tiles and objects along with other graphical upgrades. Its pretty much the same map tiles as it was 3 years ago. Whats up with that? Why not a map maker that is user friendly so the community can do your work for you like the skins? If you inspire and enable the community they will often take the workload off you. A force multiplier. They could also take some steps to remove some of the pure game the game things that take away from the feel of the game like the bombrack thread going now.
My point being the MA provides 95% plus of the income for HTC and it receives a very small percentage of the focus of the dev team. If you ignore your milk cow just because its bearing good milk now don't be surprised if it dries up or at least does not bear as much milk than it could. Not my company so don't take this as some sort of demand.

Everything that you have pointed out will also be needed for MA and "Combat Tour".
HT has been a dairy farmer for quite some time now, and call me crazy, but I think he knows the "bitness" better than most (of us). I wouldn't presume to tell him what is best for his business, unless of course I owned a similar company and was doing as good, if not better than his.
Also, What HT has done is set himself up for using any new technologies and enhancements that are developed, in both arenas ... cross use of coad !!! ... very smart on his part. For example ... if he introduces airfield landing lights in CT ... that code could/should be able to be ported to the MA without any problems and used there..
People just need to sit back and relax a little bit longer ... and then we will see many changes in both arenas (MA / CT).

First half of 2006 in the game buisness means before november 2006. Has nothing to do with june guys.
-
It will go through one more name change before it (whatever IT is) is released.
Just play the game.....

I read the article - how old is it? I found this quote - I guess this isn't going to happen....
>>Aces High II will displace the current version of Aces High. The current arena format will still be available in AH2 as Aces High Classic.<<
I would of liked having the option to continue with the "AH CLassic" while I was getting the funds together to upgrade my computer.

Uh, my frame rates drop to slideshow action when I see more than 10 planes in a given area. I sure as hell don't want to see 1,000 or even 25 planes in any online situation.

Well, a lot of us do!!!
Everytime I see one of these makes me angry. No offence, but go down to your local car dealer and say "hey I wanna buy a new car, btw it needs to have a 4 barrel carb on it tho" See what they say.
There's a reason technology moves FORWARD--------------> not backwards. You get poor framerates, then upgrade your computer. Not, tell the company to make a lesser product becuase YOUR system cant keep up.
Computer gaming & online gaming is not inexpensive, maybe find a cheaper hobby? Badminton is realitively cheap!

Well, considering my PC runs MSFS2004 online and Lock-On much better, I felt the comment was appropriate. I'm not bashing HTC--I'm sure it's more difficult to throw 700 people into an online arena (obviously). But, it certainly appears that some of this over-crowded arena bologna just isn't going to fly very well.
I'll ignore your other LTARDED comments.
Interesting thing is that HTC had the issue fixed a couple months back with one of their updates. Then, lately, the poor frame rates returned for some reason.

I have heard through a reliable industry source (Who will have to remain nameless) due to "Homeland security laws". That the reason for the hold up is...............German copyright infringment laws!:O Yes thats right!:huh
German copyright infringment laws. See the problem here is that the Germans feel left out of the fun. Oh sure their are members on from the fatherland. But you know these are the original Tutonic Knights my brothers and Sisters. they are not going to stand by and re live the bombing of their Dresden's and Hamburg's and so on and so forth. So it is held up in litigation in the international courts in the Hague. Also to, the exchange rate for the Euro keeps fluctuating and it makes it hard for HTC charge them consistently. So yes you heard it first here Boys and Girls so you can stop posting here, because it will be a long wait for the final product:furious :cry

They should change the name to ToB.
As in Tour of Booty eh? eh? eh?
Yes I thought of it all on my own :D

Well that just means, dont fly axis. Need to fly the rugged american stuff so wont have to worry about seeing that many lazergunned planes.
-
i predict more potent and advanced "virtual pilots" will fly for Luftwaffe

I was referring to HT's reference to 1,000. And, no, you'll never see 1,000 people logged into the server, but I'd hope that we wouldn't see that many AI a/c either. The real problem is that, when flying online, quite a few members of the community experience frame rate drops (practically unplayable) when only 25 planes are within a close perimeter.
